is there a good performing set up (adds good power) but still has a quiet sound ?

I could handle just a tad louder than stock, but I don't want it loud or sound obviously modified.

I'm going to eventually go with down pipes, remove third cat and the rest stock.  That will probably be just a bit louder.

Darkside

Exhausts on these cars are tricky and best to be heard in person.  While I like the sound of the Corsa at idle, IMO it sounds horrible at WOT.  I've been very happy with the SW setup which has zero raspiness to it.  They have a good video of their setup.

I'm doing the same except that I will leave cats in place on custom DP's... plan on keeping the car a while and eventually want to be sure I pass emissions. Adding the hotpipes and VTA BoV this month in prep for a tune and will be working on a new design CAI system with 4DR.  I know the last things aren't exhaust, but they will change the note a tad and the BoV will be another noise when I get off the throttle.

Oh yeah, catted DPs.  I don't want to mess with having codes even though I guess you can tune around that.

the stock mufflers can't really be a restriction I wouldn't think ? I wonder if increasing the diameter of the pipes between the 3rd cat and mufflers would add any noticeable performance ?

does anyone sell just the pipes only ?

I'm pretty sure that down pipes are the only exhaust mods that will give you gains (Removing third cat will help flow a bit too.).  Unless maybe you are going to upgrade turbos.  DPs are supposed to get you 20-25 WHP.

68-i maybe the only one here that has the borla cat backs, but i love them. they are in between magnaflows and corsa as far as sound. my friend w/ a challenger has them but  what i also did was get on youtube & searched. both systems where there with guys with SHO's. they also are cheaper than corsa & i love the way the pipes stick out about 3" so you can see the raised stamp borla name. had for about a year. downside is wait time, i had to wait 6 weeks to get them & had to buy through summit as they had the part#, borla's site didn't even list them.

I haven't heard the magnaflow but I did hear a SHO with Borla may have been yours on there ???? anyway they look much nicer, but they probably just as quiet which I liked but if they have no performance gain I feel like they're not worth replacing my stockers for them ??? Especially for the cost of Borla I bet they're high.

Whay are downpipes so expensive ? just because of what they are and limited makers of them ? I mean the're not much to them ? I'd get a o/r set in a heart beat and leave the rest of my exhast stock I guess if they weren't so expensive (for what they are which is just some bent up exhaust piping). I'd keep my stockers for any inspection issues and put them back in, But down here as long as your tune turns of the MIL code you'll pass.

I know... gen around $900,   It's not quiet, but I'm considering having a boost activated exhaust cutout built.  There's some bucks... $400 for the actual valve and about $1200 for the H/(?X?) piping on the duals.  It will have to wait until i pay Santa for Christmas..... but it is way sexy! Here's a video of it working on 4Dr's Flex...

EcoBrick Bob

Adding a pair of Magnaflows and using stock tips gives you the sound of a V-6 Mustang.  Just about right... Cost me around $300. installed here in Naples. I then painted the brushed SS mufflers flat black like stock.  Since I have added downpipes and removed 3rd cat and mid-muffler and added "X pipe".  Much louder now.  Fine in front seats but in 3rd row it's noisy.

Fast SHO

A nice 3" designed exhaust plus a down-pipe that steps up to 3" would be ideal.  SW already makes a 3" turbo muffler setup.

68_GT

so most of the power to be had in exhaust is from the downpipes right ? like 20hp at the crank ? +/- 3 or 4 for high flow cats vs off road (non catted) ?

maybe another 15hp at the crank by doing the rest of the exhaust to the tail pipe ? I wouldn't mind replacing all of it but keeping my stock mufflers to keep it quiet ??

Does anyone think there is any power gain with an aftermarket muffler vs the stock mufflers ?
