Factory headers?

Does the 10-13 SHO come with some type of factory headers? I would find it a little strange for a performance car to have regular exhaust manifolds.

In a factory boosted setup, manifolds are all you are going to find. Unless going to a highend Log setup, or something with equal length runners, its not really needed or cost effective.

The "Factory" stamped exhaust manifolds have a diameter of a "Quarter"...  The cylinder exhaust exits into a tube where at the end it goes into the turbo exhaust intake. I am not making this up...  The purpose of such a small diameter header is to boost exhaust velocity and get turbo wheel spinning faster.   Livernois took our heads and did a CNC job on them and got big percentages of flow... Unfortunately they didn't work in the real world and all evidence of that effort seems to have vanished.  ( like 60% & 30 % - almost unbelievable gains in flow)

I have a G8 friend who is working on the latest EB 3.5 and he says the next gen of EB engines are going to be "revolutionary"  ... not just evolutionary...  He is a consulting metalurgical  engineer who also worked on our engine back in 2008-2009.  Contract prohibits him from telling any feal details but he did say it involved exhaust as it pertains to getting to turbos.

Ugg, I'll bet they're gonna put the turbo's INSIDE the manifolds like Dodge does on it's 2.4l SRT motor.  Ask ANY of those guys if they like that set up. :-

The number one thing that we could be doing to make some more HP up top is starting to open up the turbine housing and header flange to flow more air, of course the loss would come at some bottom end torque...some trade off would be acceptable for sure

They're sheet metal, you can't open them up.
I made 600HP on 26psi and 500HP at 15 PSI, plenty of HP without doing that yet.
We'll see what BPD makes on his tune soon. I don't think there's a need for 99.99% of the people until a tranny rebuild kit comes out.

There is no way the turbine housings and manifolds are made of sheet metal, the EGT's would turn them into soup pretty quick. They would have to be cast metal of some type.

Torque is what kills trannys not HP, the natural evolution of modifying any turbo motor is getting more in and making the air get out just as easy and the biggest bottle neck is the manifold flange and turbine inlet.

I stand corrected, I see that the manifold is a dual layer stainless steel design....but my opinion that the exhaust side of this motor would benefit from way less back pressure post turbine blades is tried and true.

I typed 600hp because it was easier... I understand there's power in the exhaust as well as the intercooler but the tranny needs to be able to deal with it first. As I found out big power means nothing if the tranny won't shift. There's also big power in the heads and cams but what's the point. Maybe the sho tranny will last longer due to the car being lighter but there is definitely a wall out there that needs to be taken down via aftermarket transmission rebuild kits.

SHOdded

That makes sense.  They already managed to do similar ungodly things with the 3.5L in the Edge.  Oh well, as long as it proves to be reliable, I guess.  Less and less for the backyard mechanic to tinker with.

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!
