Thanks 4DR....Good to know. even happier with my choice now.  We need to set up the time for the install.  Seems if it's quieter it could be due to less restriction to air flow.

This is stupid expensive, and would need powder coating 'cuz it's mostly chrome or polished... but has anyone tried the Hennesey intake?  It appears to have 2 intake sources.  :dunno:

http://www.hennesseyperformance.com/shointake.html

They claim 26HP (?CCHP or AWDHP? increase
I want to make a knock off of that intake but need a transverse car at PPE for a few days to make it happen. If you want to work with me on it and can drop the car in Tempe for a few days I'll supply the intake for you. :)

I'm definitely interested!.... Don't know when you're thinkin about.  We could discuss dates when we set up the install for the hot pipe/BoV assembly so I can arrange to be on foot.

If I can make one for works for around $700ish or maybe less I think it would be a great option, especially to go with hot pipes.

I think 4Dr has a great idea... Needs taper going into turbos and a way to intake cold air like his custom AirAid CAI that sucks air from the fender area.  Also needs a diverter to keep engine heat from the filter area as much as possible.

With both SHO's and FLEX, and likely the Explorer Sport, if you can get rid of the plastic backing of the grille pieces, you will get more air into the engine compartment, and especially into the CAI area.  I realize much of this is for aero and minute fuel mileage gains, but it hurts engine cooling, as well as heat transfer thru the engine air intake.

Perhaps a Over the radiator or radiator bypass to the front would be an effective way to get cooler air to the turbos.  That seems to work well with G8's as well as Vettes.  How to do this is beyond my pay grade.... lol

For those who aren't familiar with the stock air intake on 2013 a SHO... here's the challenge I'm hoping 4DR can overcome and develop a solution to offer everyone. I'm surprised this doesn't make a huge sucking noise.

There is a tiny opening for air induction going into a tiny flat rectangular conduit.... at least Ford tried to keep it isolated from the engine compartment with the rubber seals on the hood in front and on the sides and across the lower windshield in the rear.  See the pics below. I've labeled them.

If you aren't aware... you can left-click on the pics to enlarge them and view as a slideshow.

I made that inlet about 4x bigger going towards the front of car.  I then cut the rubber sealing strip about 5 inches wide where the hood closes down above it.  In addition, I punched out a section on the lower right side of airbox next to fender well.  Flows very well now.

I also removed about 4-5 inches of that seal, but didn't cut any plastic.

On my airaid box I also used a 2inch hole saw and did 5 holes in the pattern of a dice on the wall that goes to the drivers fender. Figured that might help pull air in from behind the headlight.

Enlarging the front opening of the intake in the fascia looks like a good idea. Do you note that removing  that section of the rubber hood seal offered air flow benefits that outweigh the potential introduction of hot air from the engine compartment, especially if you're stopped?  :dunno:

In Phoenix ambient air temp reaches triple digits for at least half the year and at night remains 100o all night pretty often.  :sweatdrop: So the engine compartment air is pretty warm.

Great ideas both!  How do you keep turbulence down with these intake modifications?

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

Agreed!  ...but the system looks good.  We'll find out.  It's all the reason for 4DR to work his magic!
