I asked this question in another thread, but it wasn't the best place to post it. My question is this: is there a 89 octane tune out there? I have seen 87/91/93 but never heard or seen anything about 89. Where I live 89 is much easier to come by and cheaper than 93(91 is rare where I'm at). Just want to get a little more performance out of my vehicle, but the large price difference between 87 and 93 holds me back. And the fact it can be harder to locate.

Anyone out there able to confirm? And if they do any estimate of the performance gain?

Just emailed lms. I asked them if there is a 2014 tune and of they have a 89 octane tune(and what estimated performance gain would be)
Will post back their response when I get it.

Torrie can tune for 89.  Not a big deal.

Where are you from?  In Iowa, we have had 89 octane E-10 for like 20+ years, until recently.  Now everything is blended and E-10 is 87.  I understand that this is a decision from the Refiners and will ultimately affect everyone in US.  Mason City IA Murphy used to have 89,91,93 E-10... Now no 89. Cedar Falls Murphy now is 87 & 93 E-10.  Here in Naples, FL Costco has been 87 & 93 E-10 for as long as I can remember.  On our recent trip from IA to FL, I never saw 89 one time.  Used to be prevalent.
2010 Red Candy/White EB Flex.. World's first 12 second Brick.. 12.904 @ 106.85 MPH - October 2011
2009 Spt. Red G8 GT - modded. best time 12.074 & 114.02 MPH
2008 White G8 GT - mods... 8.32 1/8 mi.

Naples, FL & Clear Lake, IA

Any idea of the performance gains with the 89 tune?

I know you are trying to save on gas but if you can get 93, I would try to go for that.  You should get a little better mileage with a tune too.  At least when you get your tunes, if you have a choice include the 93 with a couple others.  They usually give you three tunes.  Like I have 2 93 tunes and a 91 in case I travel and can't get 93.

EDIT- But, if you switch from lower to higher octane make sure you run the tank down first.  And no WOTs until you run a gallon or so of it through the fuel system.

I agree ^^.  93 is the way to go if you have already spent good money on an SHO and then more good money on a tune.    Don't skimp on octane if 93 is available to you.  It's like buying a nice SHO, then trying to skimp and buy cheap wax or cheap oil.  Its peanuts compared to your overall investment and spending the minimal amount more will result in more smiles. :)

I guess another reason I'm hesitant on the more expensive fuel is simply the fact that I will never take out to a track. I spend 90% of the time going to and from work in busy traffic. So I don't have much of an opportunity for fun. But when the opportunity presents itself I like to be able to put my foot down and have an enjoyable ride.

Thanks. That is exactly what I needed to hear. What kind of mpg are most getting on the 93 tune?

I have been up over 28 on country roads, tollway and cruising through a few small towns combined.

You buy a $40K+ car and you're worried about $.15-.20/gallon?
