13-9-16 AWD - LEAK FROM PTU - BUILT ON OR BEFORE 1/25/2013

ISSUE:
Some 2013 Explorer, Taurus, and MKS vehicles equipped with all wheel drive (AWD) and built on or before 1/25/2013 may exhibit power transfer unit (PTU) fluid leak. This concern may be due to a PTU vent hose which is missing or disconnected.
ACTION:
Follow the Service Procedure Steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Raise vehicle on a hoist. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 100-02.
Inspect for a disconnected or missing PTU vent hose..
Is the hose missing or disconnected?
Yes - install new hose or attach hose, as required.
No - this article does not apply. Refer to WSM, Section 308-07 for normal diagnostics
Clean fluid residue from vehicle with Motorcraft? Metal Brake Parts Cleaner or equivalent and ensure fluid level is full.
