What would you change?

If you could ask Ford "What the hell were you thinking?"  what would you change about your car/truck/suv?

Ill start off, on our Sport:

In tow/haul and/or when the vehicle senses a trailer plug connected; turn off the friggin' backup assist!  I know the trailer is there, I put it there!

The fog light button is not connected to the dash dimmer at all.  I always drive with everything turned all the way down at night, but the fog light button is distracting. The illumination for that is so bright I simply don't use the fogs even though I generally run them all the time in my vehicles.

And in general:

WHERE IS THE 3.5 ECOBOOST WITH A 6MT!

6-Speed Manual and equal front/rear power distribution would be nice.

Yes, or even better 40/60, a torsien style center diff or even user selectable (ala Subaru DCCD).

Wish they had a more "awd" awd system lol and I man I wish ford woulda made em flexfuel. That way we'd had enough fuel for mods.
2011 SHO - Tux Blk/blk int, 402B, acc, nav, multicontour, 20s. LMS 4X MyCal, 3bar MAP, K&N Typhoon, 170* t-stat, SP534's @ 30, Stainless Works catless DPs, Corsa catback, H&R sports, 5/16 front-7/16 rear spacer, 255/35 Hankook V12s, Lamin-X/PlastiDip

I would like a Flex that looked more like the front of the Explorer.  Same size.. same height as Flex... Flex has much more seating room than Explorer..  Don't need no MANUAL in today's environment... Maybe a dual clutch system like Porsche...  ALSO.. FORD... DO YOU HEAR ME???

Poleassse (please) let us have the light interior options from Ford LTD in the Explorer Sport.

I would never buy a SHO or Explorer Sport with BLACK - BLACK BRN or any other options... Will keep my "Stone" interior Flex or find another alternative brand with a light interior.
2010 Red Candy/White EB Flex.. World's first 12 second Brick.. 12.904 @ 106.85 MPH - October 2011
2009 Spt. Red G8 GT - modded. best time 12.074 & 114.02 MPH
2008 White G8 GT - mods... 8.32 1/8 mi.

Yes!  More interior color choices and, availability to use any interior color with any exterior color.   I hate when you pick a color and they x out half of the interior colors.

I would love a 6MT; and Arm rests for the captain chairs in the 2nd row would be nice. Other than those small issues, I LOVE MY FLEX!!!!
12' Flex EB

QwikSHO

My SHO-

1) 6 MT
2) 50/50 AWD power
3) Get rid of the "rake"  (ass end sticking up)
4) Use a pattern on the plastic that looks like real carbon fiber, or don't use it at all (all the trim looks tacky)
5) side bolsters on the seat (no lateral support whatsoever)
6) single turbo (so much easier/cheaper to mod)
7) vacuum-operated BOV's (not the electronic ones)
8) true fog lights or have the LED "fog lights" run all the time like you see all the other manufacturers doing
9) get rid of the chrome trim, it's not 1999 anymore
10) real tachometer, not that tiny little digital one
11) real subwoofer, not those 6x9 "subs"
12) option for a rear spoiler delete (or higher spoiler you can actually clean under)
13) little more leg room in the rear (don't tell me you couldn't sacrifice some of the gargantuan trunk space for some more leg room)
14) a completely different center console...I'm getting aggravated with all the silly flip up stuff
15) ditch the "flower" wheels (and no the 2014 option is not good either)

My Explorer Sport:

1) body colored door handles
2) armrests on the 2nd row split seats
3)  pretty much all the performance gripes of my SHO...AWD, turbos, BOV
4) HID's (the Limiteds get them but we don't? WTF?)
5) power folding 3rd row (once again the Sports get the shaft)
6) way to keep the backup alarm off in TOW mode
7) more color choices (I really wanted the blue)

Can't ya tell I've thought about these a lot LOL

Lol QwikSHO! Poor you! It almost seems like the SHO is not for you...
But I understand your points. I would say that some of the points ciuld be addressed indeed by FMC, others are only a matter of taste and other are arguable. The 6MT would be fun, but probably slower or at least less consistent (at the drag, manual cars suck). The twin turbos don't have the same lag. For about 5K$, as of today, you can bring your car from 365 hp to more than 500 hp... Maybe a single turbo is easier, but at least we do have turbos! N/A cars are the ones difficult to mod and require expensive bolt-ons to get more power...
Finally, at one point, for some of your complaints, I guess it goes with the price... You can get A6 3.0T or BMW 535i, they will offer better interior quality... But then you need to pay the extra 20K$...
Cheers!

I would not change a whole lot - though I agree 100% with Improved AWD power distribution, make it a true AWD car and not just a FWD with a bit of power to the rears. Lighten it up a bit, improve the brakes and fix the paddle shifters so they are actually usable. Oh and method to easily select "modes" i.e. Sport, Highway, Track, etc the pushing and holding the TracControl button is a PITA.

quick:
One of the adv of the older SHO's like my 2010, a real tac, also like my wheels better than new one but thats personal taste. subs i've taken care of myself with a real set of 10's. another personal thing love the console & actually mine don't have nav one of the reasons i got it fairly cheap, but without it lots of little lights that makes it look great @ night & love the cockpit feel. also if you get white, the mocha & black interior is just plain beautiful. But agree on a couple things, wish spoiler had a gap between the body & it, wish AWD was split more even & biggest grip is those Goodyear tires. 3rd car with goodyears, they have badly slipped on what they used to be, will see how the continentals they put on my wifes escape hold out. finally on the older ones they don't have the outside mirrors with the little concave area like newer SHO's have love those & that brings a question, any reason can't get a pair of new outside mirrors & put on a '10?

I would change the 90's style "clear jeweled" rear taillights (the Titanium model did better with it, but ALL Flexes should be equipped with those IMO), would like Ford to adopt better painting processes and standards more like the Germans have especially regarding orange peel and such out of the factory, and I'd like D-pillars that don't crack over and over.

Other than that, I'm damn happy with my ride especially after all the mods I've done.
I don't have an EB but I am an avid modder and happy to help the community and learn/grow.  Pretty good with audio and wheels, my build and discussion threads are here in the forum.  2013 Flex AWD N/A

Don't get me wrong, I love my SHO...you guys gave me a forum to gripe, and I did...lol

I understand about the 6MT "lag", and it surely is nice to just punch the throttle and let the car do the driving.   No misshifts, no gear grinding, etc.  Pure acceleration.   I do miss being able to hold a gear out longer than what the ECU will do on an auto, and I miss clutch dropping in the rain and snow to get the car to kick the rear out and slide...

The TT, I understand why for less lag, but in the grand scheme of things single turbos can be better.  I mean how many high HP Supras do you see stay with twins?   They all dump the twins for a big bastard turbo.   And you are exactly right...at least we have turbos.   If SHO's didn't, I wouldn't have bought one.

As for the Audi and BMW, they may have the interior quality I would love, but I looked at both of them.   The rear leg room is lacking with both of those, and that was one of the bigger things I was looking for in a new vehicle.

If you stand back and look at most of my gripes, they are aesthetic and easily fixed (springs, vinyl, Plasti-dip, new wheels, etc.)  As a whole I love my car and I can't wait to make it faster.

I love the styling of the Flex.   The biggest thing I couldn't get over were the lines in the sides.

oh and Ford needs to put the 3.5L Ecoboost in the Edge.   If there were such a thing, I wouldn't have a SHO lol

DJE624

I agree with the weight loss suggestion!  As far as the paddle shifters go, I would like them to be replaced with a side slot +- on the shifter.  That would make it much easier to play in the curves.
