Title: LMS V11 Holding Gear Too Long
Post by: StealBlueSho on July 30, 2018, 05:37:50 PM
Title says it all... anyone notice that the V11 tune holds the current gear too long before upshifting? Sometimes I have to feather the accelerator to finally upshift... particularly noticeable in 5th gear... holds it forever before shifting into 6th....

FWIW my car doesn't do this stock...

Yep it does at times.  Just use the paddle shifter.

Ok.  Not just me.... I do use the paddle shifters when this happens...

LMS needs to address this as from my understanding it's not a hard thing to address...and it's really annoying when it happens.

Along with fixing the 2nd - 3rd shift that is much harder at part throttle than any other gear..

Not sure how long yours is holding but when AJP did my tune I actually asked him to have the 5-6 shift occur with less load.  This is nice for me because I don't get into 6th as early going up an onramp then constantly downshifting back to 5th once the slow ass minivan in front of me moves or I finally have a hole to get over.   It also cut down greatly on the dreaded 1400-1800 surge I'd get.  Switching to Chevron fuel cured 95% of it but having him make this change got rid of it 100% for me.  I noticed no difference in fuel economy either when it goes into 5th a little earlier instead of lugging with boost in 6th up a large hill.

Yes, Brad is awesome.

Is this happening when you're in true sport mode or just with the shifter in sport? I haven't noticed in mine at all. She just takes off, with a little lag to her. But I really need to play with her more in true sport too.

Standard driving mode. It's holding the gears too long before upshifting.

I hardly ever use Drive. Almost always sport or true sport mode and she shifts pretty well for me. Have you tried the relearn procedure for the tranny? Just a thought. I know I saw it in a thread before.

I can't stand sport mode on this car... 95% of the time there is rarely any reason to hold gears past 4K rpms...

I digress... I have cleared the learned values and it still does it... it will eventually upshift... just takes its sweet time.

Maybe I'm being picky... but when I'm on the highway and I have to manually put the gear into 6th on an automatic trans... irritating...

I wish the SHO came in a standard with adjustable seat bolsters... I love my SHO... but damn did Ford leave a lot of unique SHO features on the table...end of rant...

I did email LMS...they responded about the harsh the 3rd gear shift... but not the holding gears...

So I'm sure you made sure the tranny is topped off. I remember reading LMS said something about adding more then it needs if it's acting up after the tune is installed.

Different note, I added no shudder to mine when it wasn't acting right and it helped a bunch.

Plus I don't know if these tranny programs are related. But I read on my Jeep forum that the Cherokee and Ford used the same programmer for some auto tranny applications. And the Cherokee Trailhawk will ( with 6 speed auto or could be 8) never even shift past 6 unless you make it.

But i hope you get her sorted to your satisfaction.

That's quite upsetting to say the least! If It does it with other Tunes, hopefully they can make some adjustments to the Base Cal!  Z
