Title: anyone figure out how to rig the LED "fog lights" to run with the headlights off
Post by: QwikSHO on August 12, 2013, 12:44:10 AM
just seeing if we can make them sort of like DRLs in a sense...

No and the LED's really are called something like auxiliary parking lamps.  So they really aren't or intended to be fog lamps.  I added strip LED's to the headlamps for DRL's but they are on when the engine is running.  I didn't wire them to work with the lights.

In this photo the headlights are off, the light is just a reflection of the flash....

Someone found out the dealer can turn on DRL's for the Explorers...wonder if the same can be done for our SHO's?

Old news. Yes on the 13s with HID headlights the turn signals are used as DRL. On halogen models either the low beams or turn signals can be used. The led strips in the lower corner of the bumper are not used as DRL.

The dealer must activate them through special software/equipment.

If enough people are interested, I can pull mine apart and figure it out. Same way I found how to add a toggle switch for the fans for the drag racers. lol. Just have a relay off the running lights toggle a new 12volt source for the LEDs. Should be simple.

Have wiring diagram, will travel.   Either straight from the lights themselves, or from the headlight switch.

Id have to look into it on the SHO, but on some cars, you just hook up a jumper wire in the fuse box. Remove the fuse for the LEDs, and run a jumper from the running lights over to the Output side of the fuse you removed. If possible, its a 5 minute mod. But ill need to so some testing, and find the easiest way to do it safely.

I'd definitely be interested in this.  Without wiring diagrams, I'm dead in the water.

Ok, I'm looking at my car, and they already turn on without the headlight with the switch set to parking lights.

So your only option is if you ONLY want LEDs, you'll need to add a new switch.

That's what happens with mine too.   And adding a switch is something that I figured would be true.

Why Ford didn't give the Taurus a true fog light, I'll never know.

Yeah, but Audi also has their LED's run during the day without the headlights on.

I would be interested in this as well. Maybe somebody that has a Ford service manual can figure out what software needs to be changed and then we can just have our dealers update the software.

Led projector fogs may be ready to ship... $200ish.
My custom headlights were &1450, but I had every option available installed and they start with brand new factory headlights...
It can be as light as $1000 depending on options.
Chandler is great guy. Tell him Anthony sent you and he will make it happen for you...sell you stock originals and cut cost in half at least...

Can he just use mine to simplify things? I'd take them out and ship them.
