DETROIT, Mich – Ford begins introducing the coveted ST brand to its SUV lineup with the unveiling of the all-new Edge ST today, building on its best-ever SUV sales year in the U.S.

The all-new Edge ST – Ford's first SUV to be tuned by the Ford Performance team – features the most powerful V6 engine available in its class with a specially tuned 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost® engine pumping out 335 horsepower and 380 lb.-ft. of torque.

It's also outfitted for dynamic handling with a quick-shifting 8-speed automatic transmission, standard all-wheel drive with selectable traction control, an available performance brake package, and ST-tuned sport suspension.

"Edge ST puts a new animal on the road – a performance SUV with a track mentality," said Hau Thai-Tang, executive vice president of Product Development and Purchasing. "From a performance standpoint, and with its SUV silhouette and versatility, it sets a new standard Edge fans will love to drive."

A new Sport Mode allows Edge ST drivers to experience more aggressive throttle response and shifting patterns that hold gears near redline through cornering maneuvers, sharper engine braking, and a more resonant exhaust tone. Drivers can also manually shift using the steering wheel-mounted SelectShift® paddle shifters while firmly positioned in unique Edge ST seating with additional bolstering.

To complement its performance abilities, Edge ST features new front and rear styling, a wide mesh grille for optimal cooling, deep side skirts and dual-exhaust outlets. Unique 21-inch wheels are available and interior design cues on the steering wheel, seat backs and scuff plates provide a subtle reminder that this five-passenger SUV is something special.

Hmm, looks like Ford is doing what BMW did for the X6 and Benz did for the GLE.  Take an SUV and make it more car like (that is very SHO looking from the front) just bloated.  Easily the two ugliest cars on the road, very cartoonish looking.  Maybe not as bad, but nah.

Pretty much the general reaction from the Edge crowd, LOL.

FWIW @ 380 lb.-ft. of torque is pretty impressive for an SUV!
The 21 in wheels look nice which compliments the exterior which also gives it  a bit of curb appeal.  Z

People do love the wheels, Z, carryovers from the 2015 MY.  Finding tires or touchup paint ... another story, LOL.  The bodywork feels gimmicky tho, sadly, and not worthy of a Ford Performance product, IMHO.

Ford seems to go out of their way sometimes to build the vehicles that no one is asking for.

I could be wrong, but I think that an Escape ST with the 2.3t, good brakes, and lowered ride height would be more entertaining.  Especially if they offered it with a 6-speed manual as well as an auto in fwd and awd variants.

Never thought about an Escape ST, but it sounds like a Forester XT  type. I would much rather that than the Edge ST, but ultimately wouldn't buy either so oh well.  Sometimes people beg for something and it turns out nobody buys it.  Chevy SS rings a bell.  Probably a case of a few getting really loud vs. many many asking for it.  Of course the ones in charge would think of it as more like creating something you didn't even know you wanted in the first place because they are that smart lol.
