Title: Blown Motor - 2013 SHO
Post by: m3dragon on June 20, 2017, 03:24:04 PM
Seeing if the community out there can lend a hand. My 2013 SHO with 59K motor went BOOM. Had a tune on it from Leading Edge who is not longer around as of 3 months and was a poor recommendation of Eco Power Parts.

Trying to find a motor 2013-15 with around the same mileage. Ebay is the usual and shop that has the car is calling the parts network.

Ford wants to much for a new motor.

Any assistance on a motor shoot me a PM please.

Cause of issues stems back to October 2016 when data logging for leading edge Eric (HARSH WORDS HERE) removed the limiter allowing the car to go to 7200 before I shifted it. Car seemed fine but had idle issues and dead spots which had been working on fixing sense that. Now 10K later under moderate acceleration and motor went boom. Sounds like the piston skirt issue.

Geeze... sorry to hear about that!! Seems like MOST people have their best luck finding one at a salvage yard...

Another guy with a 2010 had the piston in cylinder 6 melt using an 87 octane canned tune from SCT.

Quite a few motors have gone belly up recently....

I am going to ping Ford as well to see if they will do anything. Long hail marry but you never know.

Sorry to hear, but yeah used is the cheapest way to go right now.  The only good thing is 2013+ engines are cheaper to get than 2010-12.  IdK if remanned engines are any cheaper than new.

Car-part.com may be a good place to start looking.

I went with them based on recommendation from Eco power parts vs Unleashed. So bad advise lead to bad overall. So don't buy from eco power parts if anyone reads this.

I have been looking at Car-part.com and ebay. Not much. Any cars to part are not up for auction yet either.

While unfortunate, blaming EPP because he recommended LET in good faith doesn't make him responsible.

He is also the founder and owner of this forum so I'd put a pin in the unproven accusations ...motors blow for all sorts of reasons including no reason at all. Stockers blow up from time to time as well.

IMO, one time to 7200 isn't an automatic death sentence for the 3.5 which is based on the 3.5 duratec.

If you don't believe me, call up super six motorsports and ask them what they think.

The motor blowing is not his fault and nor did I say it was his fault. That was entirely leading edge.  I am however allowed to voice my opinion and experience as the comments he made when i called to order all my parts dissuaded me from Unlesashed who was the top "tuner" at the time and he did carry them.

14K already called. Cost as much as the value of the car.

Best of luck on a smooth Transition. Z

Where you out of the 5/60k or did they catch you had a tune?

I just ordered a bran new 3.5 long block from Ford for $4,600. Well $5,600 - $1k ill get back when I send my blown core in.

If you want to go that route go to SVTPerformance forums register, and find vendor Auto Nation Ford White Bear Lake (formerly known as Tousley Ford) and go from there.

They sell OEM Ford part for anything for 10% over cost.

EPP led me to Unleashed for tuning since I ordered his turbo sections for my rebuild. Waiting on the turbo upgrades and new tuner device now.

I am sorry to hear about your engine blowing, when we discussed this on the phone last week you indicated that you had done some data logging and tune revisions with Erik back in 10/16 and then life happened and you got busy. Your email indicated that you were unhappy with the tune since the beginning. I'm sorry for your tune difficulties, Erik is an awesome guy, he just had to change directions instead of owning a shop.

As others have said car-part.com is probably the least expensive option but Auto Nation Ford White Bear Lake can sell at a decent price. You might try and contact Ryan Brown on facebook and see if he's got any suggestions, he builds quite a few engines: https://www.facebook.com/ryan.singer.18 (https://www.facebook.com/ryan.singer.18)

Dropped off at Ford. Might be covered so wait and see. Found a 2014 motor for 2K with 14K miles on it thanks to the help here if Ford will not replace. I will updated once I know.

SORRY its been a while with a update got the motor pulled I pulled it the old fashion way out the top because its what im given I dont have a lift and didnt want to jack the car up 4 feet in the air. After taking the motor out it had a hallway in it you could see through it. I did get a kow mile motor from GotEngines.com for a good price. Finding a good manual to work on these cars is hard and there are some tricky bolts to get to.

Car has been back up and running for the last few months there were some upgrades and hope to be back where I was or better soon. BrewCityBoost is currently working on it with the cooler weather coming will see if they can get it tuned before the snow falls then it will get put away for the winter and START new next year!!

Ford replaced the motor for just the 100 deposit. Advantage of buying a certified car was under the 100K warranty.
