Title: H&R spring installed
Post by: Heelfan1 on June 17, 2017, 09:19:14 PM
Spent the afternoon installing the springs today. Took about 3.5 hrs by myself FWIW. Rears are a breeze, takes longer to get the car on jack stand than it took to get the rears installed. Fronts were not bad just takes longer.

Very happy with the results, ride quality is very good actually not as firm as I thought they would be so this was a welcome surprise. For those on the fence due to a harsh ride you need not worry. Looks by far to me was the best result. Drove to town to eat and let the springs settle and got a comment at the gas station on how good it looked lowered by someone with a SEL taurus. Gave him the name of the springs and actually wants me to install them for him ( for a fee) that is.

I'll post pics tomorrow during the daylight.

Nice! Yeah I installed mine last weekend. Turned into a royal cluster of needing the right tools and accidentally severing the abs sensor wire..lol...Needless to say I now have a soldering iron and heat shrink tubing for next time!

Love the springs and the stance of the car. Did my alignment today. I had purchased the camber bolts per some random article but did not install them. They were able to get it into pretty good alignment so I think I am going to pass on them.

Wow, she looks downright mean.  Well done.

Did you use the caster/camber bolts?  Any issue with hitting bumpstops on rough roads, over speedbumps, etc?

I don't know about the bolts yet I just took it this morning to the alignment shop and will update when I find out. Ive only driven it about 30 miles since installing but didn't have any issues with the bump stops. I didn't go over any speedbumps yet but will advise when I do.

I ended up using bolts in the front and rear both. I had to have them for the rear and the front was really close and could have rotated the strut cap 180 degrees and got it but he had the bolts so he went ahead and used them to get them on target. So without elongating holes you would have needed at minimum the rear bolts.

I frequent Chicago area and drive over bump stops without issues. I will note that these bump stops are quite wide, it's like as soon as you over it with front, the rear goes over it. So that is big.

Note to all with H&R (I had a thread somewhere)
OP be on the look out for some noise when you steer, while stopped, or just at lower speeds. Mine came on like a year later. I think many here had this issue. Anyhow, 100% is the black boot/dust cover. I think as the strut turns, the dust cover doesn't move as it's attached to the upper mount and pressed in by the bump stop. Since the boot is longer on the HR spring, it binds somewhere, bottom by the strut or the top at the mount part. Lubed the boot and the bump stop, in and out for both, and lubed the actual strut where the bottom of the boot sits. Also, lubed the strut (keep in mind the strut turns but the boot does not, so since the boot was long, it is possible it was catching on the strut). Anyhow, noise is gone for a month, quite. My initial thought was strut mount, as it sounded like it. Replaced the mount but the noise was still there, heck even worse as i cleaned the boot. After lubing those areas the noise was gone.

Hope this helps the community :)

What did you use for lubing?
