Title: Throttle body upgrade / swap options?
Post by: metroplex on February 11, 2017, 08:45:50 AM
Does anyone know of any throttle bodies that can be swapped over to the SHO? Perhaps an aftermarket 3.7 Mustang's 73mm throttle body? The reason I ask is because I sealed the throttle body motor cap with a vacuum cap (the cap that a lot of us have lost) and a replacement cap, the vacuum cap collapses under idle / vacuum and gets inflated under boost. This tells me that everyone that has lost the cap is essentially suffering a vacuum/boost leak at the throttle body plate seal.

I looked at the F-150 EcoBoost and Mustang EcoBoost throttle bodies and they all use a model of TB that has a sealed motor (the plastic is a slab side design, no removable cap). The model of motor that we are using was used as far back as the 2005 Mustang that was never really intended for a turbo application. GM's GTDI LNF throttle body (used as far back as 2006) is the same style as the F-150/Mustang EcoBoost throttle body, so there's no chance of a boost leak like ours.

I know the F-150 TB has a different bolt pattern than the SHO TB, so it won't bolt to the manifold directly.

BBK might offer one.  I will be there on Tuesday and ask.

The BBK's for the S197 Mustangs required the motor to be swapped over (and those used the same or similar motors as ours with that stupid dust cap that pops off). It'd be great if they could make one similar to the EcoBoost F-150/Mustang where everything is sealed properly. Please let us know what you find out!
