Title: 2011 SHO not accelerating and loud exhaust noise inside vehicle
Post by: EJKokko on October 18, 2016, 10:27:10 PM
I think I broke the SHO! Two days ago while driving home I stopped at discount tire for 4 new tires and when I left I started the SHO and the exhaust was abnormally loud inside the vehicle! I then started driving down the road and there is NO pick-up at all! I also hear the turbos winding a lot more than normal! No white smoke out of the tail pipes and no codes being thrown on the dash! Anyone have this same issue? Did I blow a turbo? Car has 110,000 miles and is now at the dealer getting inspected! Thanks everyone!

Sounds very possibly like faulty turbo(s) and/or wastegate(s).  Maybe the air intake has a blockage?  Is the sound like a screeching sound or a droning sound or ...?  Since you got new tires, it is possible they had a hand in it, though most likely anything they could have done should have thrown a code.  Such a code may or may not result in a Check Engine Light (CEL).  So I would go to an auto parts store and have them read the codes from the PCM for free, see what the computer thinks is happening.  Did they pop the hood at all, do you know?

This was the lift they used. Could this have been the issue? Didn't start until after the tire service.

Realistically you should not have taken delivery of the vehicle and made them address it immediately. It may be hard to get them to cover any damages they caused now.

If the piping has come off the compressor side, by driving the car you may potentially damage the turbos, and if the exhaust was damaged it may overheat/melt components near the leak.  You should drive the least amount possible until you figure out whats wrong.

Sorry about the photo. It wouldn't load for some reason!

Anyways back to the SHO

Took it to the Ford Dealer and they told me it would be a few days! Thur was a two days and they told me that the a valve was stuck open. They brake torqued the vehicle which released the valve they said. Anyways they didn't charge me anything and the car is back up and running!

Thanks everyone for the comments and support! There is a large amount of knowledge on this Forum I can tell!

Has anyone else had this issue? The mechanic said he knew what it was after I said I heard the exhaust noise inside the vehicle.

Glad it wasnt the tire place's fault.  But you know if this happens again what needs fixing :)
