Title: 2014 Explorer Sport Livernois Tune Questions
Post by: ezridermn on April 01, 2016, 04:10:48 PM
I just purchased the Livernois tuning system for my 2014 Explorer Sport. I live in an area where 91 octane fuel is everywhere but 93 octane availability is hit and miss. Therefore, my plan is to run a 91 octane tune.

I was thinking I would put the tune in my completely stock vehicle and leave it at that. But then I read that a 3 bar MAP sensor and a 160 degree thermostat would allow Livernois to give me a more powerful tune over the stock setup. The question is how much more performance can I expect? And in the end is it enough improvement to justify the hassle of those upgrades.

Note: I am not looking for a MAX power setup. Just good healthy boost in power. From what I have been reading I am confident if I just go with the 91 performance tune on my otherwise stock vehicle I am going to be more than happy with the performance improvement.

However, it there is an additional noticeable improvement in the overall performance compared to pure stock Livernois tune just by adding the MAP sensor and thermostat I would probably go that route.

What say you? Worth going for or pass because it doesn't make that much of a difference.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Yes, you want the 3bar. I just did our 2015 X Sport. Since it's my wife's car I asked for 91 and 93 octane tunes so she doesn't have to worry about where to get gas and I'll use 93 for when I drive it or the odd trip to the strip. On my SHO I started without a 3 bar and when I switched to it I dropped half a second from my 1/4 mile times.

Thanks guys. Sounds like I got an answer to my question...more power for just a little more money. I'm in!

Here is a picture of my vehicle. Nothing special, bone stock silver XSport. I bought it new in May of 2014. I do however have to say I love this vehicle just as it is. Has every option including the adaptive cruise system which is great. I was driving a Yukon Denali before this. 6.2 liter pig that really wasn't that powerful. This damn truck moves as is and needless to say it is going get even faster with the Livernois tune. Can't wait.

I find the performance of these EcoBoost vehicles absolutely amazing given the relatively small size of the engine. I grew up in the muscle car days and thought those vehicles were the epitome of power. Well time and technology is proving that you can make more power from smaller engines and even get decent MPGs. Pretty amazing.

Thats forced induction for you...i find myself not wanting to talk to people about cars when after a few minutes i discover that they are clueless...like when people start talking like anything less than v8's cant or wont make power reliably

Its simply comes down to airflow....turbos add alot of it...you have airflow you have power....be it from rpm, displacement, or FI

Welcome to the forum and thank you very much for your order!

We definitely have some phenomenal tunes for your ExSport.  As mentioned in this thread, Adding the 3 bar MAP and our Evenflo 160 degree thermostat would also give you access to our higher tier tunes as well.  Feel free to give us a call if you have any questions on this and we would be glad to help.

Also if you have not already, be sure to get that tune request over to us soon as you can.  Once you pull the Strategy and SW Part ID codes, email them over to us with your name and tuner's serial number if you have not already.  We will do our best to get the tunes setup on the remote server for you ASAP.  Thanks again for your business and we hope you have a great weekend!

Here is a link to the tuner's instructions and request form as well in case you need them.  http://www.livernoismotorsports.com/?d=33&dt=86 (http://www.livernoismotorsports.com/?d=33&dt=86)
