Title: JUST FYI: Starter turns, car wouldn't start (fixed)
Post by: 14 TUX BL on March 30, 2016, 12:02:08 AM
Had the car for a year now, ~40k on the odo (bought as former Exec Lease with 28k). No problems until the other day, starter turning hard but wouldn't start.

Flat bedded to dealer (as per AWD), they called saying problem was faulty Fuel Pump Driver Module. Replaced, all ok now. Cost was my Ford Extended Warranty $100 deductible.

Seems to be an issue with the 2013+, glad they found & fixed it!

Yep... A known issue.., had mine and the LPFP replaced under warranty... Mine died in the road at a light and wouldn't start a block or so from the dealer... They sent 4 guys out to push it into the shop.

Glad it did not happen while you were driving and most importantly no one was hurt.  Z

Thanks! Short term inconvenience, didn't know it was an "issue" until now. lol

Wow, a block from the dealer. Was there a "push" charge?  ;)

You mean the car could've become inoperative while I was driving it? If so, that seems like it should've been a recall issue.

(quick side note: I noticed the dealer had a new 2015 PP on the lot, something like 6-7k off sticker. Hmm ...)

Had fuel pump module and LPFP replaced on my '14 Flex when it died in my driveway at about 34k miles...

Thanks for the replies everyone!

Well...you can most likely add me to the growing list of LPFP/HPFP failures.  Started the car this morning and drove to my wife's work.  Went out to start it to run some errands this afternoon and it wouldn't start.  Just cranked continuously until it timed out in the ECM.  So I pulled out the SCT to read for codes and nothing found...oookay.  Pulled the battery terminal for 15 min. and tried to start again, still all crank and no start.  Pulled the 3 bar and put the stock tune back on and tried to start again, but of course nothing.  Checked for codes again and boom...P00C6 - low fuel pressure.

There's a Ford dealer less than 3 min. from the factory here so I went down there to see if they'd just come get it....nada.  They gave me the roadside assistance number to call.  I have the Premium Care package good until 125k miles so with only 50k on it I'm all good short of the $100 deductible I'll be out.

So...the flatbed is on it's way and I'll probably have to wait at least a week for this back country dealership to fix my car.  :(

I certainly feel for ya r1crusher and would also mention the recall to the dealer posted above but the POOC6 is related to FRP(Fuel rail pressure to low)and keep us updated on all fronts.  Z

Ugh!  At this rate, every '13 SHO owner will have to plan on having this done at some point, earlier than anticipated.

Back from the dealership.  Gave the service guy the code I pulled as well as the recall campaign number mentioned here and just as I expected he didn't write any of it down or put it in the service system.

I really shouldn't have to pay anything out of pocket since it should be covered under the 5 yr / 60k powertrain I'd think.  But I'm fully expecting them to make it look like it's not covered and get me to pay the $100 deductible on my extended warranty.  So I'll know sometime tomorrow hopefully what the diagnosis...hopefully.

Going on day 2 in the shop and no call or word as to my issue yet.  When I was there the service writer was getting his ass chewed by a customer because he was there to pick up his car and they didn't even start on it.  So I'm pretty leery as to what I'm going to expect from them and more importantly...when.  :(

Are they open on Saturdays as well for repair work (not just ticket writeups)?  If not, you may be out of luck till Monday.  Maybe a call to the Service Manager after lunch is due?

Did they provide you with a loaner?  BTW it certainly varies by dealers, most dealers supply basic parts only and in most cases need to special order the part IMO.  Z

SHOdded...I believe their service dept. is open on Saturdays but I will be calling after lunch time today to see what's going on if anything.

Z...you would think as a premium care customer they're just provide you with a loaner but even with that I've had to beg for a loaner or have to wait weeks to schedule an appointment just to get a loaner.  I'm betting they're going to have to order parts but it would be nice to know the issue at least.  That's just part of providing good customer service, IMO.

I'll post up once I talk to someone in a little bit...hopefully.

Just got off the phone with the service dept. at the dealership.  Car is fixed and ready for pickup!

Issue: Fuel pressure sensor

Cost: $100...wtf!

I'm trying to find information on the std. warranty, but he said that because it's over the 3/36 and the issue was electrical/electronic that my extended warranty picked up and covered it thus the $100 bill.  I need to find out more about the recall that was posted but I don't think it's going help in my case.

Off to the dealer at 4:30 to get my car back and put my 3 bar and tune back on.  I'll get the exact info from the service sheet posted afterwards in case anyone is interested.  I'm curious how much the part costs and if I got my $100 worth of parts/labor...like not I'm going to guess. :(

Looks like just about $100 MSRP on the FPS AA5Z9F972A :

More commonly heard of these failing on the Fusion lineup.  Let's see how it works out.  Def post a copy of the service sheet ...

Z and SHOdded....I found the same thing.  I'm betting that's the part.  I did find another part listed on Rockauto but it was only like $15 and the description said it was an "line sensor" or the like.  Not likely that's it but I'll post up that service sheet in a little bit.

I wonder what the techs would think if I popped the hood and threw the 3 bar and tune back in it before I left the lot.

Nope, the right call was made the first time, it IS the FPDM.  Glad the SHO is once again full of badassery ...

I guess you were right about this Dealer being (busy)because based on the work order they did not even test drive the car and to confirm the codes did not return just makes you wonder, enjoy and try to keep her under a 100.  Z

Sorry SHOdded...I should have been more specific.  We were wrong to think it was the pressure sensor on the fuel rail that was replaced.  I checked the sensor on the fuel rail it was original to the car when I put the 3 bar and tune back on.

Now to get some data logging done that I've been putting off for so long.

Glad you got the ecobeast back in working order!

When my dealer did mine they did not do the bypas test.... So they replaced the LPFP first and then when it died in the street again (during the tech's test drive) they replaced the fuel control module and all was well after that... So I will never know really if my LPFP was bad at all. Guess FMC learned a lesson somewhere along the way.

I read your repair statement, thanks for posting.... I will note that my dealer didn't charge me sales tax on the extended warranty deductible... I also couldn't believe only 7.25%.... Our rate here is 9.75%.

Rock on!!

Thanks Mac!

I found it interesting that they have a way to bypass the FPDM for testing it.  $hit I could have jumped the sucker to get it running if I'd found that little gem of info!

And I used to live in a county with the lowest sales tax....6.75% until I move to where I'm at now so I hate 7.25%.  LOL!

I just did a quick search for the "FPDM" (AA8Z9D370B) and it appears to be nothing more than a $40 relay.  Feeling a little ripped off for $40 plus a little labor.  Meh...I done with it now.  LOL!

Oh...this little gem of a module/relay is located under the right rear seat.  See techs note to remove seat back and bottom to replace it.  I figured out it's on the right rear side after some research.

Just in case someone else has this awesome problem and wants to tackle the fix themselves.  :D

Well, gotta pay techs for diagnostic services, so not a ripoff really :)  But I know what you mean!
