Title: Ball Joint ??
Post by: elund126 on November 11, 2015, 09:04:03 PM
I have some clunking when turning over bumps. I have previously replaced the tie rod ends, and after checking, they are still good. I did find some movement in the ball joint on the lower control arm. After searching around for the part, it seems like you can only buy the entire control arm/ball joint assembly. Has anyone purchased just the ball joints and replaced?

All I can find is this...

I just had both lower control arms and control arm mounts replaced last week.
They do include the ball joint which is pressed in and not replaceable by itself.

Well that is going to be way more expensive than I hoped!!! I was thinking I could buy some $20 ball joints and replace them. Jokes on me!!

Unfortunately that's the way a lot of manufacturers are doing it these days.
Here's a pic of the invoice with the part numbers.

Seems like Rockauto has about the best prices on these control arms.  Expensive for the DIY'r though!

I just did the ball joint over the weekend @50k.  You need the buy the lower control arm, Bracket (AL housed bushing) and nut.

I just need to get an alignment now.

Special Tools: Harbor freight: 18mm impact swivels (short).

How long did it take you? Did you do both sides?
