Title: Open Track/Auto-x in your SHO?
Post by: Vortech347 on September 18, 2015, 05:05:46 PM
How many here have gone out for an open track day?  I run my 90' GT at NASA events at Miller Motorsports Park and I'm thinking I might sign up the SHO for a few sessions next year.   Also thinking about signing up for an auto-x or two.  Need to get accommodated with the new car.

What tire pressures worked best with the larger 20" wheels?

I've went once...so not much knowledge from me. But, the guys were starting the day off around 38 psi, as the day went on and the tires were staying heated up in between sessions the start pressure before each run was being lowered as they would heat up that much faster...with the ideal temp around 42 I think.

Next year in Nashville the SHO Convention will be running at the Corvette track in Bowling Green.

I've run an AutoX event in NJ with my Flex. I started with 40PSI front and 38PSI rear and went to 38/34PSI and that helped plant it's fat ass.

Hot or cold tire pressures?

Cold to start, warm adjustment after. My pressures starting 40/38 cold shot up to 52/50 hot...oops. Never did an AutoX with a 5000lb AWD war wagon before!

Seems like a fun way to wear out the stock Hancrap tires.  :-)

Auto-x is a blast guys, if you haven't done it, do it.  You learn the capabilities of the car in a controlled environment. I loved taking my Marauder to a few things, the wife did too.

I have been wanting to give Auto-x a try in my vette. With all the cones, looks like it could be tricky learning the layout of the course.

You do a rolling pacer lap 1st, then a warm up lap. After that you let it ride. Pacer lap is confusing at first. After 2 to 3 events of doing it you get used to it. When I ran my Flex at the Meadowlands I had already run the course in the Lotus...entered the Flex on a bet from my brother..." You'll never enter the Flex"...never bet against me. I'd enter a bicycle!
