Title: In a Funk
Post by: SammyB on September 04, 2015, 01:52:42 AM
Haven't been a member here long so I haven't had much to contribute as I believe you should. My 2011 SHO non PP just doesn't have much mid rpm to high rpm power I feel. Mods are in my signature. I don't know if it's the hot weather lately or what. I see these videos of guys without meth in the solid 12's. I raced my cousin's SS Camaro that has run in the high 12's before and I had him through 1st and 2nd and then he pulled away like I let off the gas. I expected it to be the opposite. I have asked Torrie and he says everything looks good. That guy is amazing but I don't want to keep bugging him so I am attaching my latest log file for maybe some of the experts to look over. I've got new NGK's with the heat range specified by Torrie. Checked for boost leaks and tightened all clamps. Its just strange that some cars seem to scream and others don't, even though they have similar set ups. If anyone has any constructive insight, it would be appreciated.

Sam

Are you sure your W/M is spraying?  We have had numerous reports of clogged or kinked lines that prevented it.  Straight flat road?

Cool man...I'll look at it tonight...I love pretending I'm a tuner lol

I don't have W/M yet. I read my first post and can see how that might have been misunderstood. I was commenting that it seems like there are quite a few people without it who are going fast. I've had a few fast cars. This seems to be mid 13's at best. No strips around here so going off of nothing really but racing others, my butt, and dash command which says 13.99 at 104 for whatever that's worth!

I've raced a few SS Camaros and one with an exhaust (and who knows what else) walked me pretty good up top...down low it was the SHO for the win.  Big V8's are hard to keep up with in the triple digits without W/M.

Butt dyno sucks...these cars trap low...makes sense to me if his camaro runs high 12...so u kept up early then he pulled...these cars are relatively low horse power but high torque...u my be have 360-380 whp and much heavier than him

12.6-13.0 is very realistic for a 3 bar tune and not shameful at all for a heavy car

^ What he said! I took a quick look at your log - it would be helpful (not that I'm encouraging you to break any laws) if you logged past 80 since you seem to be concerned about what is going on past those speeds.  I would be more interested in what AJP has to say on your log as I'm not very familiar with Torrie's tunes but honestly your log looks pretty good.  I see a timing dip at around 59 miles per hour but I'm guessing that is Torque management (or whatever Ford calls it) during the shift.

What I saw was maybe a bit rich and light on frp in spots....

Thought I saw some .75 lambda....

Leaning up those rich spots should help frp a bit....

What tune rev. is this for you?

Your log looks fine. nice and safe. Nothing to worry about. But I tell you what I notice. Some I don't know what it means though.

I think he may have it a little rich maybe until he does more revisions if this is an early tune for you. THe ECU is commanding .78 (lambse) I thought he had mine at .80 not much different really. That's 10.97 afr and .80 Lambda is 11.25 since the stoic point in the stock tune should be 14.069 afr.

Your fuel pressure was fine...I saw a dip to 11 MPA which is something like 1600psi and that was when your boost spiked when you hit the 2-3 shift you hit just over 18 psi/227kpa

Your boost was basically between 11-16.5 psi....I'd say torrie will give you a bit more and try to even it out a little. Give it time, with every log and tune revision your car will get better. It can be tough on the street but the quality of the log will help your tuner...Getting into 4th gear will give him more data to look at and see what the car is doing up there because it can be different.

Your knock sensor was completely flat at 0....Nice

But your wastegate duty cycle is pretty high for the boost you are hitting...I'm not sure why...You are in the 70's and 80's...When mine is that high I'm in the low 20's in psi for boost. When wastegate duty is high it's attempting more boost. The higher the wastegate duty the more it's holding the flapper shut forcing exhaust through the turbine thus making more boost. There could be a hardware change between your 11' and the new SHO's, I don't know.

I see that you have an Mdesign intake....91 hybrid did some testing or something and I thought he was questioning the flow of the smaller in tube filter that it uses...The IAT's I thought were possibly better controlled  but maybe at the cost of flow...More restriction at the intake tube can lead to pressure drops across the filter or something like that and that would increase wastegate duty to hit the same boost. I have an air raid which has a pretty large filter so I dunno

You can reconfigure your log to show Fahrenheit instead of celcius and PSI for fuel pressure instead of MPA if you like those units better. Also for IAT . Just save after you reconfigure the config file. I'd also get rid of the analog fire wire inputs. If you are using them which it looked like you weren't. The sampling rate gets the better for the log when you don't record so many PID's.

That's all I got lol

The dip in timing was not any torque management.....Load increased rapidly there....He had a big boost spike at the 2-3 shift..He went from 11 psi to about 18 psi... less spark advance is commanded when load increases...So it's just the spark tables following load....at idle and cruise you may be at 50 degrees timing but at 20 psi you may be at 7 degrees...If he was getting the same spark advance at 18 psi that he was getting at 11 psi  bad things would happen without race gas or an octane boost lol

I wanted to thank everyone for looking at my logs and replying. That's very helpful. To take the time out of your busy lives to help a stranger is what these forums are all about but still much appreciated. I too thought the MDesign intake tube seems small. Went back to stock box for the moment. I did order a meth kit from Torrie but have yet to install. Have to take the time to hide everything and make it as visually reversible as possible if I have to take it to the dealer. Thanks again!

Keep us updated with what you find out, def post logs if you want them looked at :)  Also, take time to go through the TSBs for the 2010-12, see if a description or two might match something that the car is doing.

Sammy.... As your ideas develop on hiding the meth kit install I will be very interested. I still have about 50K miles left of the Ford extended BTB warranty that I bought with the car. I really want to go with meth... But would like to minimize the possibility of getting in a problem with my dealer (I also have about 50k miles of prepaid service through Ford ESP and so I get it serviced at the dealer). TIA.

Thanks for the link Shodded. I'll definitely look into it.

Bigmac, I'll take pictures for sure. I think it was you that mounted the pump behind the bumper? That's probably the best place I can think of as they have no reason to pull the bumper at the dealer. I'll share my ideas as they come together.

Not me... As I said, trying to be stealth due to the warranty. Thanks for the future share! Don't know if I can do it behind the bumper...,my SHO is nonPP so the ACC sensor is there... May have to drop the bumper to check... Also worry about water/dirt there.

I think it was shoman04. Right by the washer reservoir behind front bumper. I don't think the acc is on that side? I plan on taking the bumper off tomorrow using bpd's write up but I don't have acc.
