Title: I just got back from the track with my SHO..times below... LMS 4X tune :)
Post by: shaneirish on August 05, 2015, 11:23:45 PM
I have a 2010 SHO with the LMS 4X tune.  This was my first time at the track with my new tune and tires.  I have the Continental DWS06's.  I was a light as possible, removed the spare and had about 2 gallons of fuel in her.  The only thing I forgot to do was lower my tires to 31PSI.  It's a 1/8 strip and it was about 70 degrees and little wind.  My first race I tried launching at 2000RPM and I ran a 8.6361 at 82.41MPH ..reaction time was .3549

Second race was against a guy in a modded full size crew cab Chevy pickup who was waiting in the line-up for cars he knew (or thought he knew in  my case) he could surprise and beat, I didn't know this til' later that he was sniping and he knew my car stock would run about 9.1 and he was going to try and embarrass me, what he didn't know  was I had the LMS 4X tune. We lined up and at this point I didn't know he was modded, it just looked like any other pickup..  We both had terrible reaction times, mine was a .799 to his .898 and I thought.."holy crap!" as he kept up with me..that is until second gear and I pulled away easily and had a 8.525 at 82.98mph to his 8.99 at 75.5mph.  I didn't launch that time and I had a better time.  I'm very happy with the 8.5 1/8th though!  My slips are below.  It will be interesting to see if a lower tire pressure will improve my times. :)

I'm still playing with the right camera angle.

Way to SHOw him!

It's odd to see a non boosted launch get a better 60'.

You have alot of wheel spin with the boosted launch?

Rich

Pretty good for a first outing!  Yeah, the standard stuff (fuel less than 1/4, low tire pressure, trac control off, brake launch etc) should net you a 1.8ish 60 foot time.  Nail that, and you will be on your way to a nice 1/8 time (and 1/4 on another track).

Nice videos, Shaneirish, and congrats on the win!  I didn't hear so much as a chirp in the first video.  I heard a bit of wheelspin in the 2nd one but it might have been the other vehicle.   I might be totally wrong about what I think I didn't hear, though!   I am still a novice but the launch will certainly make or break the run.  Unless wheel spin is the issue, I don't see how lowering tire pressures could help unless it actually results in slightly smaller diameter of tires and thus, simulating a bit lower gearing.

In looking over all of my time slips from the times I have been to the track, the times from 1/8 on through the quarter are nearly identical.  However, there is more variation in the 60s and in the 1/8.  A 60 over 2 is not going to yield a good 1/8 or a good 1/4.  I can do 1.9s but I haven't cracked the code to get into the 1.7s like Rich and some others.   Since I have barely any wheelspin, I am pretty sure I am not launching aggressively enough.

Congrats on the victory!  Very nice for being your first time on this tune and with the addition of new tires.  As others have mentioned the lower tire pressure should definitely help you dial in your launches.  That can help you get even closer to those great 60' times like Rich and others have reported.

Glad to see you are having fun with the car and enjoying the tune!  Thank you for your business and let us now if there is anything else we can do to help get the SHO to that next level.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I didn't have any wheel spin and only a chirp into second.  That strips staging area is thick with rubber so hooking up is not an issue.  I'll try launching again next week at 2000rpm and 30psi tires.  I might even remove the backseat, the cushion has wires running through it so I'll prob leave that, it is all foam and light anyway.  The seat backs are prob over 100 pounds and will be good for an extra .10 off.

After the 8.5 run I parked and had people all over my car asking questions.  I felt like a celebrity!  lol.  I told them how impressed I am with Livernois, on a side note, I wish Livernois would send badges or stickers with the tune it would be great advertising if they did.

I also ran into two Ford certified mechanics from two local dealers.  They said they never check the PCM for tunes or evidence of them.  They said they just had a modded 2012 SHO the blew his engine apart, they said he was highly modded but were not sure if he had a tune.  No questions were asked and his warranty  replaced the engine.  They said if I have any issues to go see them directly as I have an extended warranty good for about 2 more years.

I've been as low as 25 psi in the fronts...scored a 1.760 60' on a 2200 rpm launch.

I noticed from your videos that you are giving up a few hundredths by staging so deep. For ET purposes, get that first stage light on and stop...then nudge forward to barely light up the 2nd one...this will shave a touch off the time. This shallow stage will require going on 3rd yellow, if not slightly before the 3rd yellow lights up...good luck

Rich

Weather conditions can make a big difference, too.  You can check your track's density altitude here:
http://www.dragtimes.com/da-density-altitude-calculator.php (http://www.dragtimes.com/da-density-altitude-calculator.php)

I first ran when the DA was 2500+ and ran 13.1 @ 104.  I went back when it was 1600+ and ran a 12.8 @ 108.  Recently I ran when it was 2100 and ran 12.9 @ 106.
