Title: Used sho or used mks ecoboost
Post by: salsathe4th on July 19, 2015, 12:01:00 AM
I'm looking for a used car either the taurus sho or lincoln mks ecoboost (both between 2010-2012). I can find them for around $20,000 with around 50,000 miles. Im wondering which vehicle would be the better option. I plan to add a CAI, Exhaust, and tune the ecoboost engine in either vehicle. Im rather new to tuning and what not so any help you give would be great (like what to buy!) I would like to hear your guys (and girls) opinions :)

Also any specs like 0-60 or 1/8 mile or most hp would be great!

The SHO was available with a performance package that includes a deeper axle ratio, revised suspension and better brake pads.  MkSs have never had that option.  Opinions vary as to it's performance benefit.  SHOs without the performance package are mechanically identical to the MKS ecoboost.  The MKS is a tad heavier primarily due to the larger moonroof and a few other things.  Performance wise, stock or tuned, there is virtually no difference.

My MKS would run 0-60 in about 5.3 seconds stock and 4.09 seconds with an LME 3bar tune.  I never ran the quarter mile stock but magazine road tests put it at about 13.7 or so.  Tuned, mine has run the quarter in 12.8 but that was not under optimal weather conditions and I don't launch the car very hard.

I would be more interested in the car's condition, mileage and how it is equipped than whether it is an MKS or SHO.  Of course, your personal preference regarding appearance, how much emphasis you place on little luxury touches, etc. would also be a factor.  While not always the case, typically I would expect the MKS to have been driven by a bit older and perhaps less aggressive driver than the SHO so the MKS might be less likely to have been abused.  No guarantees on that, of course!

Mine ran 13.86 bone stock. That was after a 90 minute drive to the track and only 1 pass. I felt I could've squeezed more out but I was happy and wanted to she'd run on a tune. That same day I loaded my LMS stage 4+ tune and ran a 13.15 @ 107.49 mph. Probably could've gotten better than that as well due to the car not fully relearning idle trim after loading tune. Where are you located? I'm am selling my 2010 with performance package and 40,300 miles.

Thanks for the info! where did you order your tune? (for the mks)

Most of us run tunes from either Livernois Motorsports & Engineering or Unleashed.  There are many threads discussing the benefits of both places and both come highly recommended.  I have had a Livernois tune for about 3 years and 30,000 miles.

Go with torrie from unleashed its more work to datalog but the tune will be made specifically for your car as no two cars are the same. (Some can be pushed harder than others or not as hard)

Incorrect.....LMS does tune the MKS 3.5 EB.
Livernois tunes all the vehicles with the 3.5 TT GDI... SHO, F150, and the MKS... Several members are driving one version or another of the LMS tune for the MKS EB.
Either tuner, LMS or unleashed will make you very happy... If you want every last ounce of performance and have the time go Unleashed.  If you want 95%, including adjustments for mods, and want to drive more than work on the tune then go LMS.  There is a separate thread for this tuning discussion.
