Title: Fluid Specifications/Grades & Other
Post by: moem1090 on January 28, 2015, 01:47:10 PM
Hey guys, my previous post was saying how im ordering all the stuff with my tune but wanted to get your input on the grades. I'm getting everything motorcraft. Also, this maybe a stupid question but is the PTU fluid the same as the transfer case fluid? And what is RDU fluid? Am I on point with this:

Transfer Case fluid/PTU- 75w-140
Trans Fluid- MERCON LV
Coolant- OE Green
Differential Fluid- 80w-90
Brake Fluid- Dot 3
Spark Plugs- SP534
PCV- dealership only

2010 SHO

What year is your car again? Since you said green coolant I assume 11'? Not sure if the 11' uses Dot 3 or Dot 4 so make sure you find out. I know my car uses dot 4. Also the RDU should be 75w-90.

I would recommend using a full synthetic oil for the PTU and RDU.

Coolant will be either green or orange.  Check the reservoir/tank to see what's in your SHO.  Then see attachment for exact spec per color.  PTU/RDU fluid is often referred to as GEAR OIL (generic term).

Its a 2010, I know what coolant I need. And alldata specs on my end shows me Dot 3 and confirmed that with the dealer.

So the PTU/RDU and the Transfer Case are all the same but named differently?

PTU = Power Takeoff Unit (or PTO) for distribution of power to the front axle (and rear axle via the driveshaft) and also sometimes called the transfer case (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transfer_case)
RDU = Rear Differential Unit for the rear axle, to allow more power to the wheel with more traction with the help of ABS

The fluids for these 2 units will be easily found when you look for any brand of automotive GEAR OIL.  The correct weight for the PTU = 75W140, and for the RDU 80W90.

THANK YOU, I am just used to referring to them as transfer case and rear diff.
