Title: 2014 Flex ltd w/Ecoboost - Ford CAP unit.
Post by: Fastrack on December 17, 2014, 11:08:53 AM
Hey all,

Replacing my 1994 Taurus (owned since new).   I purchased a 2014 Flex ltd with 14,000km on Dec 4th.  This thing is a beast.  I also own a 2005 Mustang GT that is stored during the winter with 26,000km (it's never seen a grain of salt.. or salt water... hehehe).  The 'stang has a JLT intake as well as FRPP Boss 302 rims (19x9 and 19x10) with Pilot Super Sports and Borla exhaust (FRPP).

Nice rides Ben.

Welcome, I like the color scheme you have going on. Lots of good info here on building up the performance of the Flex.

Good luck!

You ever track the Mustang? How fast is it?

Rich

Welcome, Ben, glad to see you and your Flex/Stang here!  How did you choose the Flex for your ride?  Since the Flex is your DD, do you have plans to mod it in any way (appearance, power, handling)?

I still love the Legend Lime to this day.. least produced colour of the '05/'06 model year :)  The Flex didn't come in Legend Lime.. haha..  Unfortunately I haven't had it on the track. I went with a group from The Mustang Source (6 of us) in 2006 to Cayuga (Toronto Motorsports Park).  I decided to take the pictures of everyone using my 10D & 100-400 lens.  The pictures turned out great.  My plan was to run the next time.. but we never went back.. doh.

I do miss breaking the tires loose on the 1-2, 2-3 shift as 285 rear pilot super sports grip too well!  I've always wanted to install an FRPP blower on it (490HP or so), but I haven't maybe after driving this Flex I might have to.  I was concerned with reliability as I plan to keep it.  But with the FRPP kit it seems to be a non-issue.

My previous DD/winter car was a '94 Taurus Wagon - great car!  But the rocker panels are gone and the front right CVT joint is shot along with the wheel bearing.  The gas tank is held on with a ratchet strap as well :) The knuckle has never been off the car, so the repair would be quite difficult.  The motor was a short block back in '04 or so, and only has 60,000km's on it since!

The cargo room of the '94 was great - I could almost get a 4x8 sheet of plywood in it!  I tried an Edge but it felt cramped, the Explorer windshield has a major slope to it and felt weird after test driving the Flex.   When I saw the Flex concept at the Toronto Car show back in '06?  I just knew that was it!  I have always wanted an F-150, but having to deal with a cover on the bed all the time would be a pain.  It would be handy to load up a Snowmobile though... which won't fit in the Flex.. ha!

I'm considering a tune from Unleashed and an SCT iTSX (http://www.ecoboostperformanceforum.com/index.php?topic=4123 (http://www.ecoboostperformanceforum.com/index.php?topic=4123)).

I may put some Pilot Super Sports on it.. Depending on the cost.  The ones for my 'stang were $$$  The stock tires on this guy are huge.

For the SHO with 245 45 20 alot of the summer tires are cheaper than all seasons

I think going to a 255 size gets you cheaper tires than the 245, from what I have seen around this forum.  As long as you stay within the +/- 3% of OEM (mainly for AWD).  A tune may be able to adjust for the different size.

Mine are 255/45R20 stock.   For winters I got Blizzak DM-V1 245/60R18 on Ford Steelie's.  I couldn't find 235's ... sold out everywhere.
