Wow, sorry to hear. First time I've heard of this particular issue on the SHO.

Ya me either but it must be covered under warranty. They ordered a whole new pto without calling me first
Crazy, hope it gets fixed quickly and should be covered by the 60k drive train warranty.
Is yours a PP (on tapatalk) with the cooler?

What do you mean on tapatalk? And no mine isnt
At least that's a relief! Press 'em for any details you can get :) Could just be the statistical anomaly that landed in YOUR car.
Tapatalk doesn't display sigs, so Rich didn't know if yours was listed as a PP SHO.
Tapatalk is an app that allows easy access and use of the forum via a phone or tablet. Much easier to upload pics this way and the app makes it easier to read on the portable devices, instead of the Web page look on their small screens.
Tapatalk doesn't bring up people's sigs though, so I can't see the details of your car.
Rich
Gotcha. Ya I only use tapatalk so I hadn't a clue.
If on your desktop or laptop, basically everyone has a list of mods done to car, details of year and NON/PP, and most have times they've posted at the dragstrip.
Did you ever check the fluid in it?
Rich
I recall you having shifting issues before?
May have found the root to your problems .

The shifting issues were resolved with a different tune. And also when I messed with shift hardness I couldn't increase or I would run into that problem again. As long as it was around stock or around little better it easy fine
Leads me to believe this was your issue. You went from Livernois to Torrie?
Rich
Yes but haven't had the problem in a while
I guess there was a big hole.... they could see the gears
Did you get to return it to stock tune before it going in?
Rich
No. The dealership knows it's tuned. Being as it's been in before for the axles popping out... which there was a recall on. But I have a 3 bar so I can't run a stock tune

It's easy to swap in the 2 bar. I keep mine in the trunk incase of issues.
Carry my 2 bar in car with tool to change...just in case
Rich
Ya not sure what happened to mine lol
Is your car Performance Package equipped? Have you ever service the PTU with fresh lube?
It's not surprising, really. I'm sure your PTU just cooked its oil, like they seem to unanimously do, and with completely degradation of the oil, the bearings overheated and failed. When a case fails outright, isn't uncommon for them to essentially explode. The carnage from the PTO failure in my Speed6 was quite spectacular.

No. Never heard of doing that :( is there any right up on doing it available?
No writeup for the 2013+ yet. The PP has cooling and temp monitoring, must have failed somewhere along there.
Scary, kinda reminds me of my 92MTX SHO that ejected the differential pin out of the transaxle case.
Maybe a good weld job would work here too!
OP, I see now that you mentioned in an earlier post that your SHO is not equipped with the Performance Package.
Only the PP PTU has a temp sensor, right?
So, it is likely that there wasn't any aux cooling to save the bearings, and no sensor to trip a dummy light.
@SHOdded, there IS a write up out there for non PP cars, right?
Seems more and more like servicing the PTU is becoming an imperative maintenance item, particularly on non PP (or pre 13 PP?) equipped SHOs.

For 2010-12 non-PP, yes there is a writeup, although probably same for PP for same MYs.

Still something I am unsure about - did the pre 13 PPs have the aux cooling on the PTUs? Or is that just 13+?

Just 13+.
Seems like it doesn't matter, a member with a 2013 PP just had his PTU fail.

Are you talking about rich?
May be right. That's pretty sad, seeing as there hasn't been any success swapping in fresh fluid on the PP 13 plus.
I guess I'll finally have to break down, dig in and figure something out. No pun intended.

Isn't the issue with the fill plug being on top in the 13+ pp?
