Title: What's the difference between the 2 bar and 3 bar?
Post by: Poppy on October 30, 2014, 06:40:17 PM
I'm thinking of getting the 3 bar, but what does it do better than the 2 bar?

When you have a tune your max boost pressure will more than likely be above 14.7 psi.
The 2 bar sensor will only read to 14.7 psi.
The 3 bar allows the computer to "see" the higher psi.
If your stock you cannot run a 3 bar sensor. The car will not run properly with it.

x2.  These measurements are over and above atmospheric pressure, which is 14.7 psi or 1 bar.  Hence the term 2 bar (atmospheric + 1), and 3 bar (atmospheric + 2).

Ah, so if I want the 3 bar, then I have to get the tune too.

Thanks Glock & SHO

I second this.  I went from the 2bar with LME 4+ tune with a best E/T of 13.23 to the 3bar LME 4x tune and a best E/T of 12.75.

I think you are about an hour from Torrie (Unleashed Tuning).  You could pick up the 3bar in person and talk with da man :thumb:

So what are the mods required/suggested to get any benefit out of a 3 bar.

Tune is the only requirement to allow the 3 bar to work correctly.  For the tune, you should have new or newish spark plugs gapped at what the tuner wants (0.030 or 0.028).  A cooler thermostat is also very beneficial for these higher performance tunes.  That's about it!

not to steal the thread here. I'll be in New Smyrna Beach from the 26th till the 3rd roughly. Any 1/4 mile tracks open down there? I'm getting my tune and parts installed next week and will probably be itching to see what kinda times I will finally run.

Closest here is OSW http://www.raceosw.com/dragway/ (http://www.raceosw.com/dragway/) I've been meaning to go there on Saturday nights and funday Sunday but every time I get sat night off and Sunday off it rains out or inconvenient for me.  If your looking for a mixed car meet/show there's one every Thursday night around 9:30-10pm in Daytona Beach behind the Steak N Shake / Burlington parking lot @ 1000 west international blvd I go there every week just because the honda's, mustangs and chargers keep trying with me XD
