Post by: mac99br on September 24, 2014, 11:49:54 AM
When i put in a cooling thermostat in my sho do i have to seal it or buy a gasket for it or do i just bolt them back on? And i have a 4+x tune on with 3bar after i put the thermostat in will my fan stop going on all the time.

It is recommended to change out the gasket with the new one.  I bought my tstat from the forum, it comes with one.  I just swapped it out and tightened it up, no leaks.

Is your tune already adjusted for the cooler tstat?  You can expect your fans to turn on more frequently, so as to keep performance high without risking the engine (overheating/knock/etc).

Yes I do have my tune  adjusted for the cooler tstat. So after I put the tstat in the fan wont go on all the time.

You have to get a revised tune from LMS for the cooler stat, also LMS 160 stat does not come with a gasket,so ordering a new one is a must, the Reische 170 stat from 4DRHTRD comes with the gasket and is the one that I have.

If tstat is from LME you need to use gasket already on car. Some cars mysteriously have a notch in gasket that needs to be lined up correctly. With the tune your fans will be on more consistently, instead of turning on and off (which is sort of annoying, but keeps car cooler and is less wear on fans). Some have gotten LME to fine tune the fan settings to their liking too.

Attempted to without the spill free funnel. Think I had a large air pocket when I put the 160 back in and couldn't get the air to release causing me to think something was wrong with the 160. Took it out and tested it, it was fine but put the stock one back in. Got the funnel from eBay and am searching for the time one morning to sneak this in.

Any brand name 50/50 should work.
