Driving down the road today, and come up to a red light..... sit for a while until it turns green..... cars start rolling forward, when the first car in line stalls out..... everyone gets on the brakes except for the dope behind me who was typing in an address on his GPS..... and then SMACK! I can't believe that goober just hit me..... we pull into a parking lot, and I get out and I am afraid of what I am going to find..... thankfully it wasn't TOO bad..... rear bumper will need to be replaced and the lower valance will need replaced, and the rear reflector, and I am sure the back up sensors will need replaced because he hit right on one of them. The guy kept telling me "Let me just pay you out of pocket, I don't want to go through insurance, and this is a company car." I said, "If you have $3,000 in your pocket right now, I will take that, and walk away.... if not, I am calling the police and getting a report, and calling insurance to get this started." He said "$3,000??!?!?!.... it's just scratches" I told him "Look a little closer there buddy....this right here is paint that is now missing from my bumper.... this is where your front plate screws took a chunk out of the rear bumper, this right here is where the lower valance used to sit....now it sits here.... this reflector right here is done, and see the impact area??? Well that is a back up sensor that will most likely need replaced.... so yes, I said $3,000." He said.... "Just call the police and let's do this the right way" So needless to say, I will be getting some quotes around town today and see what happens. I have never been involved in any accidents until today..... kinda sucks. I will post pics soon..... please forgive my dirty car.

Sorry to hear this! Just happened to me last week, I'll post some pics in a bit, mine was much worse though :/ it's in the shop now... Glad to see it wasn't too bad!
Thank god your o.k the wife and kids werent in the car correct, best of luck, could of been worse, good luck SHO-TYM.
i had a similar thing but in parking lot & whoever did was kind enough to just leave it. i didn't have to have the valance done but entire bumper & sensors & as i remember was about $1800, $500 out of my pocket. bummer having your baby hurt. i'd have love to found my culprit but no camera on the parking lot.

VERY thankful that they were not in the car at the time..... I would have been a raging machine if they were in there.... I just have very low tolerance for ignorant people and their actions. This was such a dumb wreck, it should have never happened. BUT... I guess that is why they call it accidents.
Glad you are ok, SHO-Tym! The first time something like this happens is the hardest, but can't say it gets any easier :( Hope you get things sorted quickly. Need to implement a rear collision avoidance system >:(
BTW, did it fix that 4K exhaust rasp? J/K!
Car held up pretty well . Glad you are ok.
Glad all is well!
Glad you aren't injured and no apparent underlying damage. It's an example of why we should be talking to our cars, etc. rather than typing when on the road!
Ugh, hate seeing cars damaged by carless people!
I do think technology like Subaru's EyeSight will become standard in all cars within 10 years. It works great and would definitely help save some lives and body panels. Sure it will add cost, but I'd personally pay for it.

Agreed. There are the people that absolutely need to have these collision avoidance systems because of their inept driving ability. Not for their sake but for ours.

haha.... unfortunatly... the rasp is still there! maybe I can get a quote for a new factory exhaust and just put that money toward a Corsa?!!? haha... I don't think a scratch will constitute a new exhaust though.... oh well. I am just glad it wasn't any worse than it really was. I was more angry about the guy not letting me think, and being all hyper active in my face about not calling the police.... he's lucky to not have a swollen eye.... :-)
Glad your ok. Looks like he was on the brakes atleast. Nose dived right under you.

total bummer - and I feel your pain. Someone backed into my baby in the parking lot and left. Did not damage the bumper but the paint along the top (right above the plate) is all cracked and spider webbed and needs painted. Have not taken it in, am waiting for someother goober to do it and then get their insurance on the hook :).

Is Subaru's system considered better than other manufacturer's avoidance systems?

Can't beat the best! My son's GTI is there now. He goes to UT and rear ended a Ford Explorer Explorer Sport Trak last week.
