Title: Corsa Rattle
Post by: geswek on September 17, 2014, 07:31:45 PM
I have developed a nasty rattle in the exhaust by the cans. It's sporadic; happens at start up; sometimes goes away after a minute or 5.

We threw the car on lift; nothing is loose--not entirely sure what it is. I'm not a metal expert; is SS susceptible to shrinking/expanding with weather? It's suddenly gotten cooler in PA.

The rattle is definitely LOUD as hell; I'll try to get video next time it happens.

I have PPE catted pipes; I also noticed I now have an extremely aggressive rasp when I hammer the car. I guess the pipes broke in or something LOL.

The JBA system on my old Titan had a god awful rattle when cold and would occasional show up at certain RPMs. It ended up being a broken weld where the inlet meets the muffler. It was a hairline fracture so you could barely see it.

Geswek has the same setup as me and also have been experiencing almost the same issues as him,Officially especially up north they switched over to winter blend gas, cheaper to produce and by far less effective in quality for your car, noticed a loud rasp doing over 4,ooo rm,then at cold start up also noticed like a loud backfire raspy sound and it was 53 degrees here in am,this all started as soon as the gas change over, also mpg are getting lower due to the winter blend burning 20% quicker.

Is the rasp throughout the range or about 4K as SHO-Tym (?) recently mentioned?  X2 on what slurppie said.

That might be what it is. We are on winter fuel now. I didn't have DP last winter. I move next week to Florida so I'll have to check it out. The rasp is mid range and it's when I get on it. It sounds good, but way different. I just notice my exhaust is insanely louder when I hammer it. People look LOL.

I am getting it on lift Saturday to check for rattle.

Corsa catback, right?  I wonder if the 05+ Mustang GT mufflers would work.  Anybody done that exchange?

I believe the Corsa system has a life time guarantee.

If you just had your DP OR Exhaust recently installed its always a good idea and also recommended to have them checked a second time, roughly two weeks after install to make sure that all the bolts are tight, due to the heat metal expands and get looser and have them tightened, same goes with the turbo piping, found in numerous locations that the clamps were loose due to the heat.

It's been on for 6 months.

I'm checking it Saturday at my buddy's shop.

Good luck on the issue and the move down there.

Found the problem.

I had a bad leak on one of the DP's and a leak at one of the mid pipe to axle pipe connector.

We had to use two gaskets on DP connection and adjust the clamp on the axle pipe.

It's much better now and the rasp/rattle is gone. The leak on DP was on side and it was BAD; I mean it was blowing a paper when we sat it next to it.

The car felt way better; by way of butt LOL.

Good to see you found the culprit,  boost on!

Like SHOdded always recommends changing the gaskets on the DP for peace of mind before a pita install.

I'm guessing they didn't do that. The exhaust was in for about a year before I bought the downpipes.

Rather have a gasket issue than a structural integrity issue anyday.  Enjoy!
