Title: Custom Exhaust on a Budget
Post by: jayskycj on July 02, 2014, 09:16:51 PM
Installed new exhaust today.  PPE catted downpipes, magnaflow x pipe, 3rd cat/resonator delete, stock mufflers.
Total cost installed:  $1040

Sounds good. Any drone or "raspyness"

Thanks I'm happy with it. Thought the stock mufflers would yield a quieter sound but that's ok. No drone or raspiness that I have heard so far. Exhaust has a deeper tone at low rpms in the cabin but it's not annoying at all.

I will add it to the other thread soon!

Could you get a video of the car doing a drive by or a full throttle run? I'm thinking about doing this as well. Thanks!

Sure man I can do that.  Might be a few days. Also it's not tuned at the moment so not sure if stock psi makes much of a difference.

I'd appreciate it. I like how it sounds without being to loud. Just wonder what it sounds like under heavy acceleration.

Not sure if catless dp would make it sound worse or better. Still trying to figure that out. I think the stock mufflers do the best at eliminating the drone.

Yes no drone. I'm sure catless will be louder with more turbo whistle. And of course more power.  You could always get an xpipe 'muffler/resonator' instead of a normal xpipe. I think magnaflow makes one.

Im looking for the most turbo whistle i can get without having it sound like a rice wagon. Yours sounded just right in the decibel level with a noticeable whistle. Wonder if the stock downpipes are blocking the whistle or if the stock mufflers are.

I agree wasinger, I think it's just right. And that is my personal preference, still quiet with a sporty tune and a little whistle.

Shoman, best of both worlds I like it man!

Do you have any video of your car doing a drive by? It sounds great. Just not sure how loud it is at wot. Did you ever run the Dynomax with the stock downpipes? If so how did it sound?

I've heard of xpipe mufflers. Would you just use 1 where the xpipe would go and straight pipe the rest? I've heard our cars straight piped, holy whistle!

I like that!!! But they didn't have them in 2011 when I got my x-pipe. I like to know how they change our car sound?

I might get one and try it out.  It's just these v6's sound is so easy to mess up and it's hard to make it sound right so I'm not sure if I want to waste my time on something like that.

For now I think I'm going to have the stock mufflers removed and have a straight pipe installed with the bolt flanges like shoman has. That way if I don't like it I can still have them put a pair of dynomax VA mufflers on or put the stock back on when I want.

The sound of that SHO sounds pretty darn good,if you take consideration that its cold out,car sounds louder in the morning when you start it up cold, also take consideration, where is the guy walking to after he shuts off the car???? garage, maybe,so basically the camera is taping from inside the garade,so the exhaust sound contributes even louder?????just put that into perspective, just my 2 cents thats all.lol

Yeah I understand it was from a garage and the sound echos. I listened to a few other muffler delete videos and I don't like the low end sound. I just orders a set of pypes m-80's. I think they are the closest sounding to a gtr. Which is what I'm looking for. Next Thursday I'll get a video of it.

No neighbors here. Hah. Nothing will ever be as loud as my mustang. Long tube headers with an o/r x and flow threw exhaust makes for a loud car.

As a reminder, there is a thread set up to house various exhaust system video/audio clips here:

http://www.ecoboostperformanceforum.com/index.php/topic,2462.0.html (http://www.ecoboostperformanceforum.com/index.php/topic,2462.0.html)

Ideally, the clip would go in that thread and linked back here :)

Ordering my downpipes next month.  If I were to get the x-pipe muffler wasinger3000 suggested (http://www.dynomax.com/mufflers/ultra-flo-welded-x-mufflers (http://www.dynomax.com/mufflers/ultra-flo-welded-x-mufflers)), which size would I get?  I know the downpipes are supposed to be 2.5", correct?  But isn't everything after that 2.25"? Computer guy trying to learn car mechanics so please bear with me :D

Long story short, can anyone supply me with a parts list of everything I need to make it work?  Once I get it installed will definitely add it to the sound clip thread.  Thanks in advance.

That does sound good...just something about the low smooth growl in that corsa...price does suck...at least labor is easy on the pipes nowadays
