Title: 2013 Taurus SHO with PP... Rear End Clunking Noise
Post by: Rich196 on May 01, 2014, 12:27:06 PM
I 'm hearing a clunk coming from the rear end, sometimes it almost feels like a ran over something small. 99.9% of the time I hear (and feel it) is when I pull all the way into my driveway, then I put it in reverse and cut the wheel all the way to the left, back up,  and then put it in drive to pull forward, that's when it will happen. It doesn't seem to happen any time else, even taking off at WOT from a stop it wont do it.  Anyone ever encounter this problem?  Rich

Any visible signs of suspension problems?  I think I have heard of this problem being caused by the RDU, if it has lost enough fluid.  May just need to refill & replace the vent on the RDU.

Sorry, but is RDU? Rear differential Unit?  The car only has 15k Miles on it

Rear Drive Unit... as close as we get to having a differential... and yea, it sounds suspicious.... At 15K miles you've still got a power train warranty... I'd just take it to the dealer.

sounds like the RDU to me too since you can feel it move the car. My 68 Mustang did that once upon a time when the rear end went south. It would jerk the car to the side while turning a very low speeds.

sounds like a dealer / warranty trip.
