Title: Latest update on the domain name situation
Post by: EcoPowerParts on March 26, 2014, 12:37:29 PM
Just got off a call with Ford's lawyers, I'm working with them to try and keep this forum domain the same, my business domains will have to go which I'm already working on.
I'll let you guys know more as I do. The idea of combing logos will have to go away as I can't do any retail business within the forum.
They are going to contact a Ford rep and get back with me on the forum licensing.
I've also been given some time on the dates as they wanted it all done by 4/7.
Phew!
Nice people so far, I now understand more about the trademark info which I was unaware of. :)

What???? Are you telling us that a lawyer was both reasonable AND nice????     I don't believe it.  :)

But, I am really happy this transpired.  Thanks for the update Mike.

Happy to hear the forum will hopfully  remain the same .

I will just be a vendor on the forum like others, there will be some updates to vendor participation on the site soon.

Great news, I think it would make sense for the forum to be allowed as-is. But selling parts under their name, I could see, to some extent, why they don't like you profiting off of their name. Hopefully things keep going well!

So will vendors will be constrained to their respective areas when soliciting new products?

Cause IMHO, that's the way it should be.

Yes vendors will pay new info in their forum for all their products.

Thanks for the update Mike... I know you're busy with this issue on top of everything else.

Figured it was the business aspect... It's great that the forum name apparently stays the same now that it's really catching hold.

Glad that Ford is willing to come to the table with you.

I never liked that green leafy thing (logo) anyway.  Easy thing to let go IMO.  LOL

Glad to here you are working thru it all. It would have been just as easy to say screw it and shut everything down. This is a very valuable site and would have hated to see it go.

Logo is being changed for my parts site, I'm waiting for feedback from the lawyers on this site's logo and domain name etc.

It's a pleasant surprise to hear they are working with you.

Apparently someone, or some people (from FMC) are visiting, or watching the site with some degree of interest, in an official capacity.

I guess that can be a mixed blessing. Lol.

Thanks for the continued updates.

They had no idea about the site at all, they did say that forums are allowed licensing, for profit sites are not.

That does make some degree of sense.

Thanks for the update Mike...
...interesting that FMC seemed unaware of the forum, just the store... makes you wonder what info they are trolling for on the internet.... perhaps it's in the internal communications.  At least they sound reasonable.

My big (no pun intended) question now is: What is the charge to license  a forum for use of FMC's protected words/logos?
