So for some reason my RPM gauge doesn't have the redline "red shading" at 6500 rpm like most. It's the same all the way to 7000RPM. I don't know if it's just a setting that is turned on or is there something wrong with my car?
my 2010 is the same way, freaked me out first time looked at it.

The 2010 MKS has red hash marks...starting at 6200 IIRC, and they are red the rest of the way. Seems odd the MKS would do that but the SHO doesn't.
Yeah I've never seen a car without it so tripped me out at first. If there is no Redline, how am I supposed to know when to shift when using the paddle shifters if I had just bought the car. It's a bit odd!
It has a rev limiter. If you exceed redline by much, power is cut. That has happened to me accidently a few times. I like using the paddles in some situations but not for ultimate acceleration. Ford specs list the redline at 6250.
Oh I've experienced hitting the rev limiter the first time I used the shifters not really knowing when to shift but I learned that quick the first time the limiter kicked in.

Yes, I know what you mean. I first did it when the car was almost new. At first, it was a real "Oh, Sh*t" moment. I thought I had done blowed her up!

I know, I thought I had broken something first week I had her.
Ford fixed the over-rev feature in the 2013's and up. It will auto shift and not bounce off the limiter. :)

Yeah that's weird! I wonder if ford just forgot to include it or did they actually have a reason for not adding that in on the 10's but adding it in on every other year.

Sorry to complicate the question but my '10 has the redline. Mine is a late '10 so maybe what you are describing belongs to the early builds. No clue.

I wonder if it's some kind of weird setting or something that can be turned on?
Not unless the is some magic paint. Since it's visible no matter if car is on or off.

That is different for me as the red only shows up after the engine has started. Engine off = no red.
larry- i think you got it, mine was built in 12/09. it would be interesting to see if bpd's is the same as my build # & his are very close. but larry, you & chris's being even more different makes it even more strange.
& like the others the first time i hit the limiter i thought i had blown the engine as well.

I will have to double check. But the color looked like it was on the dial. And not from the back light.
But if that the case shining a flashlight on the area would illuminate the red area.

This morning after I read the comments, I knew I had a redline but I went out in the garage to check and with the engine off I found no evidence of the redline, so I started up. After a bit of the boot up process the red appeared. I would never would have noticed without this thread raising my curiosity.

Mine doesn't have it when I'm driving. It never shows up.
Is your PCM up to date? Maybe the latest updates include that redline feature? Could Torrie add that in?

I'm not sure if the PCM is upto date or not. I bought the car in November from Chrysler so I'm not too sure. How would I check something like that? I'll have to ask Torrie if he has seen this before and if that can be added?

Bet you find out that it should. I think something must be wrong.
Bulb out?
Here's a pic of my tach. It clearly has red at 6,500 rpm and does shift at 6,500. I have a semi early model though. It rolled off the line in December 2009.
