This code came up twice this weekend after fairly hard acceleration. One passing, once getting on freeway. I have been able to feel like a "stutter" lately around 3k rpm. (My dyno graph showed it). Way worse now and finally a light flashing. (Went off). Any where to start? 36,500k 11 Flex
I'd check plugs first. If you can identify a cylinder with your equipment and switch plugs between cylinders.... or can change all the plugs.. to see if it resolve.
Coils could be a problem too i suppose.
A similar issue was discussed on another thread and ultimately proved to be an injector that was failing.
Ngk's on order yesterday lol.
I had same problem switched out to new plugs. Its non existant now. I dont think ford knew how these direct injections acted on the original plugs.

Well swapped plugs out and look what i found at #1 And all the gaps were around .040 (https://scontent-b-mia.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/v/t34.0-12/1920017_10201670706677963_1898794496_n.jpg?oh=c32c8cea336436d0f49e4d00addab689&oe=53267F4C)
Whoa, what the heck happened here? Never seen this before. Glad you got 'em swapped out.
the ceramic broke loose, it moves up and down if you shake the plug lol. Found this to, http://www.autoserviceprofessional.com/article/92953/ford-gtdi-runs-rough (http://www.autoserviceprofessional.com/article/92953/ford-gtdi-runs-rough)
Must be part of the reason they changed the plugs used for OEM builds. Good find!

Its a good thing you caught that early.
If a piece of the ceramic broke off and went into the cylinder that could have been very bad.
Glad you found this... A real disaster waiting to happen!
Ouch Pat! Glad you found it sooner than later!
It is when known problem with earlier plugs.

Dang. That's lucky.
I've seen this quite a few times before. Denso plugs in particular were letting loose the ceramic insulators, but they chipped or shattered and dropped into the cylinder. I think we all know what happened from there. Lol!
At least your remained intact!

Yep, very lucky. It seems to run a little better too. Freaked out ALOT of the younger Tampa import scene at track last nite. Local 1/8th mi track. First up was against a BMW 335, no clue what he did but I ran 8.7 he ran a 13.3. haha. I guess a kid i work with was by staging and when I rolled up they were laughin about some idiot in the grocery getter gonna get his ass kicked by a Bmer. raced him 3 times, he went dark board on last 2 but still not even close. Took out a 10 Mustang GT twice and a few healthy Hondas.
