Title: 2012 SHO owner..mulling over a 2014 for my SIXTH(!) one...
Post by: jim1274 on November 25, 2013, 05:49:27 AM
Current SHO is a silver base model 2012 unmodified (Livernois tune sitting in the box on the shelf though...).

I have owned every SHO model made since back in the early days and will say this is my favorite one and favorite car ever (even like it more than my 2012 SRT8 Challenger that just got traded for a Caddy for the wife).

I am currently giving strong consideration to trading my 2012 for a new 2014, but that is a topic for another post.  Unless I am reading the current incentives wrong, there are 3 current offers on '14's that can be stacked for $5500 off.  That is the best incentive I have ever seen on a current model year SHO and pretty generous for a current model year ANYTHING.  Throw in say another $3500 discount (the dealer discounting is still aggressive even with the rebates going on)  and you are talking about nine G's off of sticker.  I am baffled why Ford is discounting the current model year so aggressively.

I did give some serious thought to keeping this SHO and getting another car to "play" with (came real close recently to buying a mint condition 2007 Audi S6...oh that V10...potential repair costs scared me off), but the better than expected trade-in value on my '12 combined with $5500 in rebates is pretty compelling.   After looking at about every vehicle made in the search for a replacement for the SRT8 for the wife's ride, I did not find one car that was liked better (by me...unfortunately not her...) than my SHO for the money.  Have to admit I tried to subtly pawn off my 2012 SHO on the wife and just get me a loaded 2014 SHO for the other side of the garage....

Have not yet figured out what happened to spur the exodus from the ecoboost owners forum, but looks like the active SHO crew is over here now, so here I am.

Welcome, Jim.  What a fine dilemma to find oneself in!  I believe 2015 is a redesign MY for the Taurus.  I have heard that other models in the Ford lineup will have a short 2014 year as their plant(s) will shut down for retooling sometime end of March 2014.  But yeah, I don't know why the 2014 is being so discounted.  Good for the owners, though!

What specifically does your wife not like about the SHO, if I may ask?  WOULD be nice to have siblings (had 2 SHOs myself at one point), but variety IS the spice of life :)

If not for the huge rebate, I would not even be considering the trade-up.  There are a few nice improvements in the 2013 and up models, and I regret not getting some options, plus now I have the option to get a PP car.  Since there are no options that are gotta haves, I still am not 100% on whether this is worth doing since my '12 only has 6000 miles and is still showroom condition.  This is my chance to get a PP, but am not an aggressive driver, so jury is still out on whether that is way to go for MY driving style.  Probably need to take a good test ride back-to-back with mine and a PP 2014.  Also mulled over just aftermarket parts upgrading mine to closer to a PP spec, but that is probably gonna cost a lot more than just getting the $2000 package, making a stronger case for getting it via a 2014 buy.  Decisions, decisions.....

As for the wife not liking the SHO--not the case at all.  She actually preferred the SHO over the SRT8 Challenger, but made the case to get something other than another SHO to replace the SRT8.  This whole car shuffle was precipitated by no longer having a company car for a 3rd vehicle--just decided did not want to invest in and take care of a 3rd car of our own which meant the Challenger had to go given not driveable in winter (did at least consider getting snow tire/rim option and keeping it)  She did have a good point in getting something different rather than having 2 of the basically exact same car in a 2012 and 2014 SHO.  Plus she preferred something a little smaller and the Caddy ATS seemed to be a decent choice...and her pick...think that nice tricoat red paint sealed the deal...  (Little too small for my tastes, but is a nice ride--got the turbo version which reminds me a lot of the SHO engine power delivery)

Thanks, Mike.  I see the active mod enthusiast crew is over here now--looks like the place to be!

Just got a call a minute ago from Jim K., the one who you referred me to for the 2012 SHO--negotiating a deal on the 2014.  We have a little ways to go on the trade number, plus there is a discrepancy on what he is showing on incentives from his info vs what I pulled right from the Ford web site, so jury is still out.  Worst case scenario is I put the Livernois tune still in the box on my '12 and get to work on modding mine instead.  Either option is good!

Welcome, glad you made it over!

Pretty embarrassing, Mike, seeing the 600HP in your byline and my Livernois tune still sitting in the box for almost exactly a year now.....but....a blessing unistalled if they check the car codes for tunes when trading in....   Probably gonna hurt the trade-in value if they take it at all.   I wonder if they routinely check that as part of the trade-in evaluation?

The dealer I traded my flex in knew all about it and didn't care

Interesting, and a valuable piece of information--thanks.  My reason for not installing was more the issue of possible compromise of the warranty beyond obviously risking loss of coverage on the drivetrain that is directly impacted by tune.  This seems to be a gray area in terms of other warrantied parts--the tune technically invalidates the whole warranty from what I read via Ford statements and it could be a hassle at a minimum even if something unrelated like the radio went bad.  I suppose it all depend on what kind of dealer attitude is in play.
