I am getting my MKS/SHO (still undecided) this weekend and already have these parts ready to go on as soon as I get home:
-CAI
-Tuner from Livernois
-170 T-stat
-2 1/4" pipe for 3rd cat/muffler delete
I have a little bit of extra mod money kicking around and I am torn between running a meth setup or doing catless downpipes. Please weigh in on which one would yield more horsepower for track use.
Eventually downpipes and meth will end up on the vehicle when next spring rolls around.
Meth! Keep those valves clean ;-)
2011 ISM SHO; Airaid Intake
Meth 60 whp, downpipes 15 whp... Same price (but easier to install downpipes than meth), you chose! lol
The only thing is that with meth, you need to be committed to make sure you always have sufficient meth in the tank, but it is all worth it. At the track, meth is good for -0.5 second.
No brainer my friend...
Cheers!
I'm in the same boat trying to make a decision on mods.
Livernois upgraded turbos + down pipes
Or
Meth + downpipes
If I was making your decisions I would choose meth.

Bnoon has a set of downpipes for sale, although meth makes more power you should jump on the deal. :)
PM him on this board and see if he still has them and how much he wants for them (I had thought $400 but it was a bid price on Ebay)

Looks like the auction is over.

Meth in the long run is a better option. As it will clean your valves, and that is a major problem on DI engines as they get pretty bad
I might get shot for this but, I am no fan of Methanol or Nitrous for that matter. Never was. But, I would love to get some catted down pipes someday!

I was never a huge fan of nitrous either then I dropped from 7.95 to 7.12 in the 1/8 mile in my Jeep and my outlook changed.
Methanol even when ran in a small shot, not necessarily for performance will do a lot for reliability. Lower temps/ cleaner valves. The guys from the mazdaspeed, started seeing some weird things, with the dirty valves

Yup, you likely will.
Tons of documented benefits of running it, both for performance reasons, as well as for long term overall reliability benefits.
Try it out for yourself Dave, and you're guaranteed to get into those 12's, instead of crossing your fingers and hoping Mother Nature helps you with cooler temps and what not.
If not, well then, bring out the firing squad.
:minigunner:
I knew somebody would shoot me! What I really want to do is get a 12 with just a tune. I'm so dang close. I thought I had it when I got the 13.150. Felt like a good run. I agree that Methanol has it's pros. It's just not for me at this time.

Uncle!
NITRO- METHANE!!!
Frankly, a W/M system from Torrie or a basic Stage 1 system from Devils Own, are under $300.00 These systems use a boost sensor to activate the W/M pump. SIMPLER IS BETTER... READ my articles on W/M..... Of course, if you are chasing 11's or 4DR... you need to spend MORE... but if you are just spraying on the street or wanting to impress your friends or others at the strip... GO CHEAP and get 90%+ for LESS...
Devil's own also sells the same system as AlkyControl for under $500... + NPT braided lines and fittings. They sell braided lines with NPT fittings in many sizes... SO... if you feel you need braided lines, they are the best source on the internet....

Great advice EBB! :ok:
Also, it goes w/o saying, since my ATP turbo upgrades have already been ordered & shipment is pending.....
You'll need to add my name next to 4DR's as far as who Dave will be chasing. :smoke:

Can you run 100% meth with either of these systems?

Until you guys are able to put all that power to the ground, I believe that I, with First-SHO, are the guys to be chased. lol ; )
And then, I will be running XV1... hehe

The pumps are all made by Shurflow. Devil's Own version is the latest... For safety and legal reasons, almost all of these companies do not recommend 100% methanol, or any concentration that is flammable. However, their systems, especially if you run braided lines are just as safe at running 100% methanol as anyone elses. AlkyControl likes to see pump below the outlet of the W/M tank and the spray nozzle, simply to make sure pump is primed by gravity. These pumps are very reliable, and likely more reliable than the controller module. If I am going to be doing WOT runs, I always make sure everything is working properly. I also installed a light that turns on when pump is getting power, which tells me that my boost pressure switch is working.
100% methanol is 116 octane and in our vehicles works as a supplemental fuel source to keep lambda #'s safe. However, non-flammable concentrations of W/M are used to cool the air, resulting in the ability to run more advance without knock. The most important thing is to be tuned for and consistently use the same methanol % so everything operates safely... especially A/F ratio (lambda).
FYI...Almost all my logging and testing for Torrie was done in Naples, FL when outside temps were between 80 & 90 deg, using Costco 93 octane gas.
