Anyone have the details as I do not want to break it off. I will be wrapping my roof black in the near future and it would be easier if this black plastic antenna cover could come off easily.
This is what you need to buy to cover the stock antenna base. Have them paint it black to match your wrap. It works just as good as stock. I have them on both G8's as well as Flex.
Flex one is flat on bottom, while G8's have a slight curve. Cost under $80. as I recall.
It's an antenna cover.

I think the stock antenna looks better than those shark fins that everyone and their mother puts on their cars.
Jeesh, it's nice that everyone tells what to get or not get, but no one will tell you how to remove the stock one! Sorry, I have not removed mine and don't have a clue as to how to remove it.....
Back to the question.... How can I remove the cover? Will it come off from outside the car? I just want to remove it to wrap the roof then reinstall it.
From my 2010 Flex service manual:
1. remove the L & R "D" pillar trim panels
2. Remove rear dome lamp
3 Lower the rear of the headliner to gain access to the antenna
4. Loosen the antenna cable bolt and disconnect the cable from the antenna
5. Remove the antenna mast if equipped
6. Press the two tabs (underneath) and remove the antenna.
Hope this helps. It can't be removed from the outside, unless you use a big chisel and a hammer!!!!! LOL
Personally, I felt that BLACK antenna bases with a short mast look cheap on our cars. That's why I replaced.
Sorry I offended anyone with my suggestion.

so basically your response is as useless as ours!
Mine is just a base, no mast.

Only because I don't know how to remove it.... :-[
I just got done changing the antenna on my SHO and then examined the black cover. There is no way to take the black cover off without removing the antenna from the car. You have to get under the headliner to remove the entire antenna first. I can take photos of how the black cover comes off but like I said...it is impossible to take the black cover off while it is on the car.

I figured out a way. Leave the garage door open just enough to catch it when you back out and that will take care of it. LOL, just kidding.
I saw what was involved in replacing it so it used heavy duty 3M double sided tape and welder glue to put it back on. Looks like new and has held up for over a year so far, except for a slight scratch on the roof.
