Title: 275 40 20
Post by: avidmotion on March 26, 2018, 02:00:24 AM
Has anyone run the 275 40 20 on a stock suspension (no H&R springs), and not had rubbing or ABS problems....2013 +PP SHO

I don't see why you would have ABS issues unless you only changed two tires, as long as all 4 match ABS should be fine, as will the AWD system. If you differ front and rear by 3% or more you may have AWD issues.

Since the 275/40/20 will fit on a lowered SHO, I see no reason to expect issue on a stock height car.

Much will depend on the wheel choice.  275 will not go on stock wheels from everything I have read.  What wheel are you looking to go to?

according to their spec sheet online the RS isn't made in a 255/45/20. have to stick with stock size or push your luck trying to mount a 275/40/20 on the stock rim

^thanks that's what i needed to know. Been tempted to try 275's on my 8.5" wheels but don't really think that'd be a great setup.

I'm not 100% sure, I believe 10". Will try to get a rough measurement tonight.

Kinda hard to see the stock wheels with the tires. How did that setup work out? Sidewall bulging?

Aren't 10" a bit wide for a 275?...BTW I love a 275/40 on the SHO...Grip monster....SHO bro I would put a 275 on a 8.5...Maybe a bit of a bulge but not bad...I have a 305 on my 9.5" mustang wheel...It's similar in terms of how much wider the tire is than the wheel.

I wouldn't hesitate to much to run a 275 on an 8.5 inch wheel.  I love me some tire bulge.  There not going to separate a bead any easier than a 245 would.  Look how far the VW and Honda community stretch their sidewall for the sake of tuck AND poke, and their failure rate isn't as high as one would expect.  Going the other way would be safer IMHO.

Those 275 look to fit on the 9" wheels pretty well.  Any idea what the offset is on those wheels?

I just measured the rim from lip to lip and got about 10.5"... so definitely 10".

TBH i'm not sure i'd gain a whole lot of real word contact surface by going that much wider on an 8.5" rim. the bulge would curl the shoulder of the tire in and reduce the effective width of the tire. or am i wrong?
if i had more of a problem with grip i'd look into it further . . but you know my struggle at this altitude, it's hard to build enough boost off the line to break traction a whole lot. and even then i think torque source 15 might shut me down.

Yea I wanted the 255, only looked at stock size at the price. Going stock size with the RS, least expensive of the bunch....

Yeah that is too bad.  I was interested in 255's as well.

Nice writeup on the tires.  Interesting comment about the 45day free trial.

I am hoping that this will work on all 4 corners with the 275/40-R20.
Planning to go with the Lago's in 20*9.5 / 35 as that should let me run 255's or 275's in case the 275 rub.
https://www.willtheyfit.com/index.php?width=245&aspect=45&diameter=20&wheelwidth=8&offset=38&width2=275&aspect2=40&wheel_size=20&wheel_width=9-5&offset2=35 (https://www.willtheyfit.com/index.php?width=245&aspect=45&diameter=20&wheelwidth=8&offset=38&width2=275&aspect2=40&wheel_size=20&wheel_width=9-5&offset2=35)

Another option is the AMR's in 20*8.5 / 30.  AMR will give me more clearance to the struts, not as much poke, but I worry giving up the inch means no 275's either?

So, does anyone that is running 275's all around have any regrets, comments or tips to share about going with the wider size now that they have put miles on their cars?

Any unforseen issues, negative effects on handling, sluggish steering,  etc?  Would you do it again, or would you maybe drop back to 255's up front or all around?

NO regrets, H&R's and these tires are the bomb, I am thrilled..
No Rubbing, however, the wheels have to be the correct offset
My wheels Were +38 Offset, Link to the wheels and site: SO 20 x 9  5 x 114.3 , +38

OH yea, when i bought them "ON Sale" 807.00 for the Set, to my Door

I've only had my SHO for a month +, car does act funny while backing up on a dry/clean road with the wheels fully turned to either side but I've experienced that with other vehicles.
Handling is awesome (also have the H&R's), lots of grip. No sluggish steering.
So far I'd say I like the 275', the hard suspension not so much.

Thanks guys!!

The Wheels I am I am looking at are: 20x9.5  +35.  So they are wider, but also pushed away from the strut a touch more to counter that wider width.

275/40/20 9.5" +40mm offset. About 4mm clearance to the strut.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180418/40a8fef50cc7d4b5ccedeec17436a195.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180418/293605409be37ad3d9b15dc447932b3e.jpg)

Running 275/40 on 20x9 on all 4 corners +38 fronts and an 8mm spacer out back to bring them to +30.  Zero fitment issues, perfect tire fitment on the rim, and fantastic handling.
