I'd really like to submit mine, but:

1) I don't have enough quality pics (only from iPhone)
2) I still need to do healights cover and HID conversion
3) I won't have time to do 1) and 2) before end of February or March...

But please others! What are you waiting for to submit? Any ride can win. Even if stock, some people may not like one'S mod or prefer a nice and clean stock ride.

Go ahead guys!

The only thing I can find wrong, is that it seems very hard to vote without posting a vote.  It would be nice if you could vote simply by clicking on your choice.

What if the radio buttons (where we click to make choices) could be put beside the picture or vice-versa... would that make it easier?

Also a link on the HOME page just above the previous Months winner during the voting period and one at the TOP when you click on the Forum Button would  help....

No problem.  Just don't want to get off into distractions.  The entrants deserve to make their presentations with out other subjects coming up.  I appreciate the accolades.  I am very proud of my SHO and love it very much.  I have been disqualifying myself because I run the ROTM and also would like the other guys to have their chance at it.  Not saying I would win but just like to be able to announce the winner.  It would be kind of weird saying "The winner of the ROTM is ...Me!"  I may get in there some time.

WOW! The RotM submission thread is now closed! All three spots filled up in under 5.5 hours!! Great job guys. Beautiful pics, sleek rides...this is going to be a GREAT competition. One F-150, one SHO, and an MKS...time to see who really rules this forum! LOL

THANK YOU to all three competitors for joining this months RotM - ford4thot, IA 5HO, and Joleat. Let's not forget to give "thank you's" to all three contestant's for their hard work and submissions!!

For those of you that didn't make it into this months competition, get your submissions ready for next month. I'll give a heads up when the RotM opening date and time will be after this month's winner is announced!

The submission thread is locked and voting will commence shortly and run through the end of the month!

I appreciate all the work done to make the ROTM happen... BUT.... Please birng back the visible vote totals for those who voted to see and follow.

It elevates the selection process above suspicion. ... no proven need for secrecy anyway. Openness is key here.
It is interesting to watch and generates shouts and posts.
It likely encourages participation... this way we wait weeks..... why?
I think members like it generally... below is 6 hours of shouts...in a row...

bigmoneycloser: I liked seeing voting results after my vote was cast.. Just to watch the progression..
SwampRat: Voting result should be seen by those that have voted
Today at 11:04:28 AM
SwampRat: Voting result
yowen: yes and since you can only see the results after you vote, there is no chance of someone being influenced by the results.
BiGMaC: Personal opinion only... not a dis to anyone... and I did vote.  However I must say that I'd like to be able to see the standings after I vote.   I also feel seeing the results after voting is a bit of incentive for forum activity and participation.

Thanks for considering!

Sorry this is a lot to read; but I have a lot to say ;D

First and foremost, thank you BigMac for a well organized post, and thanks all of you for your participation and input. This is a community and it's up to the community how things are run around here. I value your comments, and will definitely keep them under advisement in moving forward...keep 'em coming! The new format isn't set in stone, but I had to start somewhere.

With that being said; I still need to do what I feel is in the best interest of the things I have been put in charge of...in this case; RotM.
If we don't change anything from how things have run in the past, we can't expect any changes in the outcome. ...and it needs to change, or there's no point in doing it for the 0.35% of members (typically even less) that have been participating.
We might as well just give a RotM badge to the 35 ppl that care and be done.

As for whether the changes I've implemented are effecting participation, this is the hard data I'm seeing:
- In the last 35 hours we have had more votes than last month's entire RotM competition.
- RotM has routinely struggled to achieve even three contestants by the end of the month. This month the entries were limited to three, and filled in just 5.5hrs.

Title: Re: RotM / RotY - Comments & Discussion
Post by: JimiJak on May 14, 2014, 10:43:22 PM
As for the comments from the shoutbox and BiGMaC's post above:
BiGMaC sts; "posting results instantly elevates the process above suspicion"
- the poll will be shown at the top of this thread just like it used to be right after the vote.

As for "encouraging participation", "openness being the key", and "generating shoutbox shouts and thread posts"...all of this goes against Yowen's comment of not influencing others before they vote. I understand nobody can see the actual results until they have voted...but once a clear lead is in place the voting seems to stop. Month after month.
This tells me that all the chatter about there being a leader is actually deterring others away from voting. This is the first month that nobody knows who's in the lead...or by how much...and frankly it's exciting! PLUS the votes keep steadily coming in.

I'll leave you with this thought:
You're at a car show and you see a man selling a 50/50 raffle ticket. Would you buy a raffle ticket with the winning number already picked? They don't tell you the number until you buy a ticket...then they hand you the ticket...you show them the number...and they say; "nope...sorry", until the winning ticket is sold.

But that's not how they do it...anywhere...ever.
Instead, they make you wait alllll the way until the very end of the event. Then there's an announcement...a production...theatrics...suspense...a sense of occasion...a drumroll for gosh sakes.
...AND THE WINNER IS...!!!

*boom. :D

One third of one percent of our total member base participated in RotM last month.

OK... Easier to read... BTW, don't use Manu's website... but that's cool too!

Of course ROTM/ROTY should be awarded by popular vote.

The problem with it is that you can't count 800+ as active.... lurkers are fine, and they can vote as members... but don't count them when figuring percent of membership voting... look to see who's posted ...say in the last month... or you pick the time.... and use that number.  I suspect there are not more than 50 active members (by this criteria)... you guys can get the numbers, I'm just noting that there is a core of folks participating.

BTW... sorry about headaches, vertigo, nystagmus, transient hemianopsia, or diplopia.  :boom:

Title: Re: RotM / RotY - Comments & Discussion

Ok...so let's use the 350 active members number. Which is pretty accurate. That means out of 1,000+ members, only 35% of them are active, and of those active members, only 10% of them participate in RotM...that's still pretty sad, and needs to be drastically improved.

To put that in perspective. FocusST.org has 9,851 members.
Let's say the same 35% applied to them, that leaves roughly 3,500 active members. That's 10x our active members so the math will be easy.

Last month, they had over 65 entries in the ST of the month competition. I can't find the poll to tell you how many voted...but the number of entries alone is over double what ours typically is per capita.

No argument... numbers here are poor if we use the numbers you list... Entries are relatively few in comparison to the FST site

I'm just saying set  attainable goals for us... not another forum... TCCA claims 10,00 members, but voting is about like ours...

Say your quoted 1000 members here... 35 votes (never seen more than mid 30s, it's posted btw)... is 3.5%... I do not believe the 350 active members number is realistic though (if active = participates) and belive it to be no more than 50.... count the nicks and posts (exclude introductions) in a month and I bet you don't find more than 50... So while not spectacular, if these numbers are in the ballpark.  I believe that 50% - 70% of the 50 vote (25-35 members).... in most recent months

Can you get more?... I'm cheering for you man!
... but US voter turn out for presidential elections is not as good as ours for RotM!

The RotM is important to those that participate and REALLY have pride in their ride... doesn't have to be super-modded... just a majority crowd pleaser.  Maybe misunderstanding that from the standpoint of potential entrants and voters along with fear of rejection is the discouragement... dunno.... but everyone should try if they love their ride!

So as I said earlier.... let's see if this idea improves voting... but I'd hate to see active voting hurt by taking away a feature those folks enjoy.... So let's see... and let's see appropriate response to the changes, or lack thereof.

Again... THANKS for your efforts.

Am I going to end up carting you both to the ER, BiGMaC and JimiJak?  It's good you are doing battle with nerf lances :D

Certainly we are open to ideas to increase participation in the RoTM entries AND voting.  If people are holding back from voting because they don't like any of the entries, or can't decide between the entries, the important thing is to make a choice.  Doesn't have to be the perfect choice, but chime in regardless.  It will make the entrants feel good too!

RoTM/RoTY = serious fun = one of the rare oxymorons that actually works!

So, is that 8:00PM EST, CST, MST, or PST?  Seems like it will matter since there's only 3 spots.

Submit your RotM entry now before the spots are full!

Hey guys!
Apparently ROTM will be full of surprises this month. That's cool. The first surprise is that we have until June 15th to change our photos etc. Well, I am going on a fishing trip until the 16th, so it is not alack of interest, but I'll have to leave my pics as is.
Nice rides guys and very diversified, for all tastes!
I am happy that I am not alone this time. Last year, when I won the ROTM, I was alone lol!
I prefer to lose against good competitors than to win because I am alone... Actually, I'd prefer to win against good competitors!
Cheers!

the same thing is true at the ford car shows i attend. at the fordfest @ our big raceway here last year there were around 25 focus st & i was only sho. i like my sho as a non-sleeper, those focus guys like to imitate the rice cars a little too much even for me.

It's a fwd hatch-back with a 250+hp turbocharged engine...even though it's domestic; if not a "ricer" what is it?
Title: Re: RotM / RotY - Comments & Discussion

I can't believe I'm actually explaining this, but:

"Rice" or "ricer" is a derogatory term for - and this part is quite important - NON-performance vehicles "posing" or "impostering" as high performance.

If a dude in a Honda has a 250HP turbocharged beast of a motor in a tiny car, it is not a "ricer".  That's a bonafide awesome car and respect is due.

But if that same Honda (or other) owner has a big ugly wing, big ugly exhaust pipe, body kit haphazardly installed, etc. but the driver is acting like he has 250HP, we got ourselves a "ricer".  This also begets the "ricer flyby", which I am intimately familiar with.  That's really how you know what you're dealing with.

A little more on topic.... Although I agree with Lanson on the staple grain thing....

As I looked at the entrants deciding my vote, I was struck that my difficulty was similar to peering into a bag full of perfect diamonds and trying to choose the best one.

Great rides guys!

I've always thought of ricers  as being 4 banger buzz bombs weather they are foreign or domestic .....

That's ok Lanson, as long as you survive Saturdays cut, it could be a whole other ball-game for Stage II ;)

I hope not only we can get more people to vote, but with the twists of this month, people will have to vote at least a second time... Hopefully, we won't lose too many voters for the second round!
Interesting and nice rides indeed! For all tastes ; )

I'd probably have more votes if more of you guys came over here to demo my car with your favorite music.

Hearing is believing.

Or come in my car and enjoy the music of the engine while doing the 1/4 mile in 12.0! Just teasing ;) I'm pretty sure you can get your Flex moving 0-60 in less than 5 seconds just by cranking up the subs!

I'm working on snagging a Fox Capri to satisfy performance cravings on my end.

Just love quirky boxy cars (Flex), ya know?

BTW my subs wouldn't impress you in most cases other than their detail.  No, the best part of my system is the total immersion, an immersion of an imaginary sound stage with correct 3D depth, like a really nice set of home audio speakers in a nicely set room with your eyes closed and you're able to pick out where the instrument is in the room, and how big the room is, etc.  A faithful reproduction of the original source recording.

My door midbass might impress you.  Those bad boys are big and powerful, and the level up-front bass I get often surprises people (including myself often.)  To fit a 8 3/4" midbass in the space of a 5x7, was quite the task and I'll remember it well for a while.

The front stage with pillar 2-ways and center 2-way, being 100% custom made, are all meant to get the very best sound stage reproduction I can, when paired with a processor and enough amplification.  I didn't like any commercially available crossovers, so I hand-built my own for all the speakers, using high quality home theater components.

Basically what I'm saying is, it isn't something that's just a few add-ons to the stock setup, nor anything that can be bought in stores.  This baby is all about changing people's opinion (including mine) of what is and is not car audio.  A very close copy of what is possible in home audio hi-fi, that's the goal.

Yes, anybody local is more than welcome to have a listen, and by all means critique the system because that's how it gets better.

You know, a GTG would be really cool, if people weren't so spread out.

Hi Jimijak!
I finally had a bit of time to clean the car yesterday and took some pictures of the Inside. Since I didn't have any when submitting, let me know if you want me to post them here or replace one of the 6 pics in my ROTM submission. New pics are still in the camera at home, but I could upload them tomorrow.
Thanks!

Maybe I'm missing it, but is there somewhere in the taptalk app to vote?
I'm rarely on the regular site. The only way I've been able to vote is on the main site.

2010 RCM non PP
K&N panel filter
sp534 @ 30

more to come.....

Correct, only two this month. I think summer finally hit and everyone's distracted. LOL

Since the voting's already underway, I would rather let this month play out. But still wash up and snap some pics, 11 days from now and you can enter September's RotM!

Hope to see you there!
