Title: Thinking of deleting mid muffler
Post by: SuperPete on February 06, 2020, 10:49:09 PM
Few months back when I had my PTO go out, I was loading car on the trailer to take it to the dealer and some how trailer was high or ramps steep, anyway, on the way in and out it bent my mid muffler can some, I will post picture later.
I am sure at this point it's restricting some flow.

I am thinking of deleting it, did read all I can read on this forum about it.
I don't want it to be loud or rattly or some kind of aquaria noisy unpleasant ride, here and there I take my clients to lunch and I don't want them to feel like they are in ghetto car, makes me look bad.
Anyway, if I get rid of mid muffler, how bad is it and do I gain anything from doing so?

No gains. Its a resonator and is practically straight through... It will make for a boomier cabin. Made this mistake once.

I deleted my 3rd cat and resonator and mufflers and I don't have any rasp at all with my set up

Keep in mind I have catless downpipes and gutted third cat and straight through mufflers... Worst thing in my experience is when I load up the family and cruising at highway speed it would start resonating (booming) pretty badly... Had to turn up the radio... 😂

Main point is there is no restriction from the resonator, no gains. Third cat is the primary restrictions there.

So, what if I just remove 3rd cat, just that

If removed 3rd cat does it then drone or sound raspy....any performance gain at all like maybe turbos spool up faster?

I never actually deleted it but I did hollow it out and used it as a crossover/midpipe. I do believe however that the two (third cat and resonator) and their positioning are used in conjunction to help keep the sound in check. Gets a little louder with it hollowed out. How much louder obviously depends on your downpipe setup/mufflers. Rasp and drone are affected by those other components as well.

On post 369 you can see and hear what I did to mine.  I love it.  It is quiet and made power.

I'd have to say that I  liked door number 2 in that video. If you don't  get a drone at cruise it has a good tone to it.

Zero drone and no crappy EB tone because I still have stock mufflers.

Took some pics of my removed "gutted" third cat and resonator. Kinda tricky to get a good shot but this is my flashlight stuck in the cat. You can see fairly clear to the concrete floor in my garage.
