Huh? There is no camera on windshield.

Sent from my mobile, I think.

There is on the upper models. It's for rain sensing and headlight sensing I believe.

Jmr is correct.

I plan to find someone with the wiring skill set to tap into it someday....

Actually its just for the auto high beam function.  I am researching it right now.

The camera which is also contains a heater (I have seen this actually work on a frosted windshield) has two connectors which are + and - circuits.  Description of them in the manual is this :"CTRL MOD. - LANE DEPARTURE WARNING # HEATER FRONT WINDOW -" and "CTRL MOD. - LANE DEPARTURE WARNING # HEATER FRONT WINDOW +"

My car has a lane departure system? Who knew? He he... Sadly my Canadian car doesn't come configured the same way as your American cars. For example... no HID's for us.

So if my car has a lane departure system then I guess I'm a pretty good driver cause I've never heard a beep. ;)

The taurus doesn't have lane departure. I have tried activating it through as built data but no go

The camera also controls the rain-sensing wipers.... It turns them on and determines speed they wipe based on the refractance of light entering the camera... Ford sight demos this function in a video on their website.

I wonder if we can pull a video feed out of it....

Since it (the camera behind your rear view mirror) is only designed/used to detect light and refractance of same I wonder if the MOS on this camera can even produce and image.... Maybe a Ford person can comment specifically.

Using the Coastal software and an additional camera this type of thing could be done.... I am not sure what is sacrificed when Coastal is used.

If someone could snag one from a wreck that would be a good place to start. I'd tinker with it

I guess I am not sure what benefit a camera mounted in this location would provide. It basically would reproduce the view from your own eyes.

More and more people are putting cameras in their cars to be a 'witness' in case of accident and to 'capture' that 1,000,000 hit You Tube vid. ;)

i know many have tablets mounted on their windsheild or dash (for OBD diagnostic view, like Torque).

I'm sure there must be some software that would allow you to use the tablets camera to record on demand from where its mounted.

I ordered a dash mount and will play around with it this weekend...
