Title: PTU drain plug mod
Post by: LincolnMKS15 on May 01, 2023, 10:36:52 AM
Anyone put in a drain plug to change PTU lube?  Any tips?  Plan on doing this to my car soon.  Also want to flush out what might be sludgy in there.  ATF fluid?

Yes it has been done. Personally I would stay away as it does weaken the ptu case and they can crack without the modded drain as it is..

Drain, Fill. Drive. Drain. Fill and drive. Best way.

Suck the oil out through the Fill plug.

I extended my PTU breather hose and filled the PTU through that. Warmed up the oil so it flows easily. Leave the top fill plug open til it drains out there then you know its full.

Videos are on Youtube on how to suck it out.

Yeah, have seen both done.  Will just do the fluid change.  Will get a mighty vac or something and fish the tube down the inspection hole.  Thanks for the advice!
