Title: Best way to contact?
Post by: FearlessAZ on April 19, 2017, 06:34:18 PM
I was wondering what is the best way to get in contact with someone from MDesign? Was trying to see about getting a replacement piece for my intake. I tried email, website form and Facebook Messenger. Thought maybe someone would have a phone number or they might see this. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I've emailed customer service through their website and gotten responses pretty promptly. I hope you were the original buyer for the intake or they won't even sell you replacement parts or deal with you at all really. :(

Sadly, I was not the original purchaser. I don't mind paying a reasonable price for the piece I need. Just trying to avoid buying a whole new intake. If it comes down to that, I would probably just put on stock box and get a drop in filter.

What is the purpose of that policy?

i'd be willing to bet they won't sell you a thing if you don't have proof of original purchase . . at least that's what they told me. i asked about buying a replacement air scoop and updated larger filter from the newest generation and they basically told me i was out of luck if i wasn't the original buyer. steered me away from buying a used kit from a forum member here. kind of seems like they want to twist peoples arms into buying a new kit from them directly. . they lost my business because of their policy though.
plan on fabbing my own since you can get the CF tube on ebay for cheap anyway lol.

That would suck.  I guess they are not in the business of selling parts, so their actions are concomitant.  But they should say so openly.  Maybe the company is sold?

I had to look up that word too. Now I got to fit it into my vocabulary.

The front scoop is the piece that broke. I always look my vehicles over before longs trips. I recently went on a trip from Phoenix to Kansas City. I checked under the hood before we left Phoenix. Everything looked good. I checked before we left Kansas City. Saw that front intake scoop was missing small chunk and cracked a bit. I'm unsure how that would happen from normal driving use. The wife never got into throttle when we would switch off and I never got real hard into it. I'm sure I can find someone local to put a fiberglass wrap to kinda refurbish it. But I would rather see if I can buy that piece.

I would completely understand not wanting to replace the part for free and that is not what I am asking from MDesign. I'm just asking for the opportunity to buy the scoop at a reasonable price. And if that is too much to ask, then I would be happy to take my money somewhere else. And at the very least, I would appreciate some sort of response back From MDesign. I emailed them April 08th, still nothing. Messaged on Facebook April 11th, still nothing. And I believe I filled out the form on their website maybe the 13th or 14? Unsure the date on that one.

I really love this intake and want to continue to use it but I don't see that being an option if I do not get things resolved.

Completely understandable.  I know I'd be p***ed off by that response.

I sent them another email this morning and finally got a response (weird how quick the response was when I didn't mention purchasing from someone else). Pretty much what Colorado said. They said they would replace part under warranty if I was original purchaser. Said they don't sell the parts individually. So I guess I am SOL for now. If I would have known that before, I probably would not have gone the route I did. Oh well. Learn from my mistake.

Hasnt been active or posted since November :( I believe he sold his SHO and was the reason why he was selling some stuff off.

As a newer member here, thank you for sharing your experience.  It looks like a fantastic product, but with customer service and policies like that it is not something I would ever purchase, and having this cautionary thread will help others not get bit like you have.

sorry to hear but i'm not surprised. they  don't seem to be very interested in the ecoboost community as a whole but rather making profit and moving on. in reality though the intake scoop is the only thing proprietary to the mdesign intake. if you can duplicate that or find another means of feeding the filter you can recreate the design and even potentially make improvements along the way. it's not high on my priority list but that's what i intend to do over time.

Hello M,

You are most welcome, we sincerely appreciate the concern.

As our MDesign Performance Carbon Cold Air Intake systems are designed and engineered in order to create an optimum performing cold air intake system, MDesign Performance is the sole supplier of any MDesign Performance product component. Our designs are protected in order to maintain the quality and authenticity of our products therefore any component sourced other than MDesign Performance would be counterfeit.

In furtherance of maintaining the quality of our products our MDesign Performance Carbon Cold Air Intake systems are delivered with a limited lifetime warranty. As long as we can authenticate a MDesign Performance product and the product seeking to be warrantied is physically available in order to be sent in for warranty processing the product may be warrantied. If the owner of a MDesign Performance product is not the original owner they may now continue to take advantage of the limited lifetime warranty offered on our products.

In regards to the member of the forum, we have been contacted by said member and have begun the process in order to provide the member with a replacement!

We thank you again for your support and patronage, please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.

It seems that policy changed since my first email this morning with them. I got another a few hours later asking if I  was in possession of the scoop and to take pictures and so forth.

If this is their new decision, then kudos to MDesign. People like to see that "extra mile" .

I will continue to update this thread until it reaches a conclusion. I hope that things continue to move forward to a desirable position for both MDesign and myself. I in no way want to hurt the reputation of this company or try and get product for free. That was never the intent of this thread.

And good lookin out, SHOdded. You definitely earned a lot more respect in my book (not like you need any more  :thumb: )

Well, MDesign is kind of a homegrown  business that has some roots here.  I want to see it succeed of course, but bad customer service is something I will not stand for.

And if this does end up helping you, that would make me very happy.

Great to see you are making some progress in getting your situation resolved Fearless!

but also . . .
REALLY!!!??? After getting some negative feedback on the forums(obviously they've seen this thread) and getting an email from a forum moderator they change their stance on everything!

Integrity= doing the right thing when no one is looking. Not when all eyes are on you.

I presented this question to them twice and the OP once and the answer was no. No all of the sudden it has changed. It will be interesting to see if they continue to honor this policy in the future with others who have purchased a used intake or if this is more of a temporary damage control move.

anyhow . . . best of luck to the OP.

I am pretty sure that MDesign contacted me before SHOdded had a chance to shoot over his email (or before they responded?). But either way, I am giving them the chance to make it right. I got the scoop pulled tonight. Here are a few pictures.

When I saw the crack and the broken piece before I left KCMO, I pulled the scoop to try to glue what I could. I didn't think it would have been good to drive 1300 miles with no scoop on. This scoop has only been handled a few times during my ownership. When I put it in, it looked good as new. Before I left KCMO, I pulled it out to glue the crack and what I could. And to pull it out to take pictures. I am unsure how it could possibly warp like that or crack just from normal highway driving.

So far, no response since sending pictures last night. Probably still in shock, like I am, wondering how the hell it even ends up like this.

They told me to ship the piece in. Should of arrived at their PO Box last night. Haven't heard anything else. Hoping they pick it up today and get me a response sometime today but that is wishful thinking.

I will be emailing them in the morning. I knew there was some rough weather up that way and I did not expect them to pick up from PO Box on the weekend. Figured today at the latest for them to pick it up.

I gave them a few day grace period to pick it up from the PO Box. I emailed them this morning. Hopefully hear something today. And who knows if there aren't any other circumstances at play. I am really trying to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Thanks Z! Are they local to you are you just got that pull with them? ;)

I received a tracking number this morning. Says it should be here Monday. Can't wait to get it back. Been itching to drive my SHO. Without the scoop, I have only taken it down the block to the gas station for a couple quick drink runs.

Just really happy that MDesign did the right thing and got the scoop replaced.

Could be a lot of reasons:  insufficient staffing, vision of founder not being propagated, or a simple knowing who's who being needed.

This is true. I didn't want to say if there was a why or why not. I am not local to them or know anything about them or their business besides word of mouth and their website. There could be any number of reasons why things were going the way they did. I am just happy they made it right.
