Title: Smoking exhaust
Post by: Linemonkey on April 07, 2020, 09:10:27 PM
Ok, I'm needing some help, guys. Im getting some smoke from my tailpipe. Not consistent though. It's not the dreaded blue smoke of rings giving up but not good, regardless. It's only coming from one bank. Has anyone had a similar issue? Any thoughts? Many thanks

It could be your Oil Sep PCV System @ Best. . Need to remove the oil Sep located on TOP of the Rear valve cover and inspect it for any such oil. New Sep should help your issues especially if original. I would also check your CAC (Intercooler) for oil - H20 pooling..
Check your spark plug wells for oil contamination..
How many miles on your SHO ?

Btw Welcome back. Z

color of smoke?  most likely turbos if there is something serious.  then fuel injectors, if you can smell the fuel coming out/black smoke.

It's white, almost like steam

I can't believe I didn't think about that. I haven't checked the CAC or PVC in quite a while. I've got over 100k and I'm sure they both need attention.

Do you notice any stumbling on acceleration?   Since white makes me think water, intercooler buildup moght indeed be where its at.  I think blown turbo seals would make for bluish smoke, but I have to check older posts ...

It doesn't feel like it's lost any power at all. That's why I'm stumped. Im going to check the CAC this afternoon and see what it looks like.  The PCV has never been changed, to my knowledge, so I'm sure it's full of crud too

Looks like it's a turbo. A little oil had been blowing through the BOV. I got underneath and found one of the turbos with oil all over it. At least I know what it is, now.
