The manual says you will get a message that Sport Mode is on when you hit the traction control button twice. I've been messing with this all day and the only thing I get is a real fast pop up that says "Traction control off". Any thoughts? Yes, I have the PP.
I recall something about pressing the brake for 5 seconds for the advance trac off feature.
But I could be completely wrong as I don't have the performance packages on my SHO.
Just to clarify this is for the PP only, put the vehicle in drive and rapidly press the button twice and on left side of the dash should appear in yellow sport mode, advance track off,if you do the same procedure but only pressing the button once, traction control off should appear, make sure on the right of the dash the little slippery icon is lit.
Ok, I was trying it in park. I'll try it in drive and let you know.
Still the same thing. No Sport Mode message at all.
Bill is the slippery icon lit up on the right side of the dash?
Yes but the only message I got was "Traction Control off", nothing about Sport Mode. The Traction Control off message came on real fast the went away unlike normally when you just turn the Traction Control off and the message comes up until you hit OK.
Sounds to me you have a sticky button, did you ever spill anything in the area, cause its not letting you program it,and does the button feel loose?
Never spilled anything.
No, it feels fine to me.
I'm lazy and haven't read the whole thread but to put it in Sport Mode, press on the brakes and press the button twice. To turn everything off, press the brakes and hold the button down for about 8 seconds.
Slurp- it's not working, that's the problem. I can turn the Advance Trac off but I can't get into Sport Mode for some reason.
Bill the button has to flicker like a light switch and not feel mushy, also do you recall it working prior to having the computer reprogramed by the dealer?
BMC, mine can be temperamental at times requiring me to make 2 hard button presses otherwise it flip flops between traction on/off. Can you at least disable everything (advance trac off)?

It doesn't feel mushy at all. I've only tried it a few times and I don't ever recall it working.
Slurp- Yes, I can turn the Advance Trac off

The weather has alot to do with the function of the button operating to its full potential, like the cold will make it sometimes harder to push down.
Bill one more question, for performance and winter use does the advance track off work by holding the button down for five secinds with car in drive anf foot on brake pedal should be priority to function instead of sport mode.
Yeah, I hold it down for 5-6 seconds and the Advance Trac is off.
PS- Get ready for Englishtown, I'll be going on a Weds within the next month or so.

Bill glad to see it resolved, can i go to sleep know, lol,at least it doesnt say advance track service soon, could be a TSB for that or a glitch.
Sport Mode situation isn't resolved yet but go to bed! TTYL
Isn't Sports Mode just moving the shifter to S?
I recall hitting the button twice to turn off advance trak, which means all nannies are off. But you have to be going less than 50mph if I recall.
No. If you read your owners manual you will see by hitting the traction control button two times rapidly your car should go into Sport Mode. I would tell you what page to read but it's in my car at the moment.
You have to push twice REALLY FAST. Otherwise the traction control off will pop up. I always drive in sport mode, and half the time it doesn't work the first time.
Cool, just looked it up in the manual. I think I've pushed the button a few times since I've owned my SHO.
Going to play with it tomorrow.
Here is a screenshot of the manual for a quick lookup:

Wait...
I thought it was a single press for turning off traction control, two presses for Advance Trac Sport (or something) and then holding it down with brake pressed for 5 seconds gets you AdvanceTrac off, which is the cream of crop setting, and disables all nannies.
*EDIT
Nevermind. You beat me to it with the illustration above. XD

I have the exact same problem. . I've never seen sport mode message pop up just a quick flash.. the dealer said they couldn't find anything wrong ?
By putting the vehicle in drive and foot on the brake pedal and rapidly pressing the button twice you should see this on your dash, then same procedure by pressing the button once and finally holding the button down for five seconds you should see this, hope it helps someone, maybe you guys dont have the special edition PP,HA,HA,LOL. ;) ;)
Thanks Z.
Yeah, no Sport Mode for me. My friend is at the dealer trying to look into it. I can however turn the Advance Trac off as shown above.

JK- I get a quick flash and the flash says "Traction Control off".
Worked for me this morning. Did it stopped and going 30mph while pushing in brake. Doesn't matter if shifter is in D or S. Couldn't tell any difference.
Wish it would tell you somewhere which mode you are in, instead of just flashing it for a few seconds.

Did it say sport mode in the left side of the cluster?

Yes. I'll take a video tonight and post it up.
Yes please do. What's the date of manufacture of urs ?

All I have to do to turn off AdvanceTrak is hit 100 MPH....
My 2013 PP acts the same way as yours jmr061.
Always has and I've never seen "sport mode" displayed. I thinks it's still working though.
I'm I have a short S turn (2 90 degree bends) that's great for testing. I can tell the difference between Traction Off, 2 button press traction off, and 5 second button hold. I will hit this bend around 50 mph and then try to accelerate hard through them to test these modes. The sport mode will still allow me to accelerate through the bends with just some tire spin but won't allow the car to get sideways or under steer much. The 5 second everything off is a little hairy and will actually allow the car to fish tail or understear, depending on my driving.
Mine was manufactured 03/12.
Those of you that can get advancetrac sport mode to display on the 2013s Id like to know manufacture date and vin. I want to see if I can figure out why some do and don't have it. Can't get mine to show it either.

JMR MINE HAS A 11/12 BUILD DATE,could be an issue with the earlier year build date thats affected.
Mine is 6/12 and doesn't do it. Could you PM me your vin. I can look at some internal data and job 1 2 or 3 status. Thabks

JMR, while you are at it can you dig in to the non PP issue of AdvanceTrak shutting down around 100 MPH?
11/12 date for mine as well.
So far from the cars that have the message display versus those that don't it appears to be a manufacture date issue. Job 1 (first production run) doesn't show the message and Job 2 does.
I am asking that members with the PP send me the following from the IPC engineering mode:
Pressing and holding the left "OK" button for five seconds while starting the vehicle gets the IPC into engineering mode. Then use the left pad up and down arrows to toggle to different displays on the left side of the IPC. There should be one that lists part no, core, Cal# and ECU software. Could you give me the numbers from those. Provide your VIN number and whether or not yours displays the advancetrac sport mode message.
Thanks

This appears to be a programming/software issues with the early (possibly all job 1 SHOs). Anyone know a contact at ford to pass this along too?
Maybe the Livernois guys might know?

I've hit 140 almost every night this last week and never once had it turn off advance trak lol. Wonder why mine doesn't. I had really bad traction that I couldn't drive around, till torrie worked it out.
WAS- that's not the issue we're concerned with.
If anyone has any Ford contacts please let us know so maybe we can address this issue.
Post info up on FordTaurus.net. Ford has customer service reps that monitor the forums who can submit a case.
I sent them a PM. Generally their response is contact ur dealer but I expressed my concern in doing that and that I am much better versed in the issue than the dealer ever would be

Ugh!!! I spent hours trying to get my cluster to say sport mode when I got mine new 2 years ago.
For the record, mine is doing the same as discussed above. It never says sport mode.
I will update the thread with my engineering data after work.
I am able to get mine into AdvanceTrac Sport Mode while driving. It works when going under 45mph. Don't even have to hit the brakes.

Must be nice to have the right software in ur IPC

And I have to say it's an educated guess that our early ones are actually going into as the traction symbol in the right stays lit it's just we don't get the message on the left. After I hit it twice quick and believe I am in sport mode, I hit the button to turn it off and the message advancetrack on pops up on the left.

i get the same exact thing as jmr061
My car DOES NOT display the sport mode message on the left info screen. My vin number and build date are in the 2nd photo.
The response....go see your dealer. I'll bite my tongue

So who is gonna be first to go to the dealer with this issue?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
My buddy from the dealer spoke with some people and they are saying it might be a gauge cluster issue. Once I'm done going to the track, it's going in to be checked.
PS- Ran my car last night and even though the dash isn't saying I'm in Sport Mode, I tried it anyway. Well, I had the best two 60 foot times ever so I think it's working even though the message doesn't show when you hit the button twice.
1.820 and 1.783
Correct the message won't display but the traction light in the right side is on indicating it is on. We need the message so we know what setting we are in.

It's a software issue with IPC aka instrument panel cluster programming. They need to make a programming fix. If the slim chance of it actually being hardware then they will need to replace lots of clusters.

Mine is the same way.
Build date 04/14/2012
Hope they fix this someday.
My car goes into the dealer tomorrow for several issues and this IPC issue is one of them.
I will let everyone know how it turns out.
Best of luck, Jason, hope it all goes perfectly!
Not having pp on the 2013, I totally forgot about this.....It does work on the 2015, even while moving.
It has been dropped off and i showed them what it doesn't display so hopefully they will contact ford and cross your fingers.

Mine doesn't display Sport Mode when activated either, huh I always wondered about that. Though I know the different modes still work... tested on BIR race course back in 2012. Sport mode is kind of nice... it will let you slide rear out a little more before activating. I had experienced this in the last corner on the track, in normal and in Sport. Since the car had 2K on the clock... I never shut it completely off....... it was raining and the car was new....and I was used to driving a Mustang on road courses. (or just plain chicken...lol)
Just got back from picking up my car...yes 2 weeks at the dealer.
AdvanceTrak display issue....ignored even though I showed them the problem personally.
Sounds like what my dealer did to me when I told them about the awd display.

Ah no dealer will know how to activate the AWD gauge without guidance from me.

Mine does the same damn thing of not displaying the mode.
Ford still has not resolved the issue and has dropped the ball and will no longer respond to my attempts about contacting them about the issue. Should go crash my car and sue based on a safety defect because I didn't know I put it in sport mode lol

Well....thanks to this post, I've realized I've been doing it wrong. I wasn't holding the Traction Control button long enough.
The one thing I noticed is that when the splash screen comes up, the traction control icon flashes a few times and then goes solid. That's it. Went through the all the display issues for the dash.
Gotta say, my 0-60 feels even faster. Crazy! Gonna have to take it out and actually try it somewhere.
Thanks all!!
