Title: Taurus 2.0 Ecoboost input/ideas (tuning?)
Post by: MKS Tom on August 31, 2019, 05:38:19 PM
I have been looking for a 3rd vehicle that is similar in size to my MKS, so I have been looking at a Taurus Limited for around $10K.  Wanted FWD so I don't have PTU or any AWD component failures as this purchase in part to negate those possible issues when they come up in my MKS and for my wife's vehicle.  I have a project Subaru SVX that isn't a real option as a reliable back up car.

So I have been just looking at N/A 3.5 FWD, ideally for a Limited so I have most of the options I am use to in my Lincoln.  I came across that the Taurus had a 2.0 Ecoboost option in it and that there is a nice looking used on fairly close to me.

Does anyone where have one of these and what are your impressions on it?  The appealing part of this would be these seemingly have better gas mileage.  They only come in FWD from what I gather, which is fine as I have two other AWD vehicles.  Does anyone have one of these tuned through SCT?  I am not looking to do dumb stuff with it, but wanted to know is that was an option at all.

Thank you.

The 2.0s generally love their oil and trans fluid changes.  No dipstick to easily check fluid.  And the turbos tend to keel over about every 100k.  Otherwise well-loved.  Not sure on tuning, you may have to be the guinea pig here.

I had a loaner 3.5 Taurus SEL twice when my SHO was getting things done.

Not a chance I would buy a car with less power than the SHO and thats untuned. Its a night and day difference imho between the 2 total package and power.

The 2.0T might get you more performance than the 3.5na ?

This has about 100K on the nose, so hopefully the turbo isn't dead.

The ability to tune it isn't a deciding factor but a possible bonus.  I want a full size car as a spare with less problems that what a $10,000 SHO or MKS would offer.  Tuning is just a bonus.

It's a matter of the NA 3.5 with possible water pump issues for the mileage in my range against the 2.0 turbo.  I don't care about performance, if I can tune it that is wonderful.  It's a reliability and gas mileage thing for a 3rd car.  If I can tune it, I may drive it more on long trips if I am able to get even better MPG but it won't be my daily.

Keep fluids fresh, exercise it at least weekly, the 2.0 should be fine.  Consider installing a catchcan, and using ethanolfree fuel if available.  Sitting around is just as bad for cars as it is for people :)

Gotcha

Actually, this one is out your way.  It's at Performance Toyota (I'm in Quakertown).  If it is there Saturday, I may go get it.

I am considering this one too:

I would love the 2nd one as I like the color, miles, and wheels better.  I may offer them $11,500 as they will delivery it to me.  I would offer $9,500 for the one at Performance Toyota.  I am fairly certain I am going this route on one of these.

Car looks SUPER clean, at least in the pics.  And the engine cover has cup holders!  SWEET! :)

I was just here. Engine is clean. Trunk and interior are good as well. Underside looks great. Tires look very new. Eagle RSA. Rims are great. Battery looks new?
Bad side. Lots of dings and such every where. Driver door was repaired and maybe more at trunk?. Nothing on the history report. Not too major from what I see.

Seems like a good car. Not worth the money with the damage imho. I would go lower for sure. Its the Limited so it's loaded. That's a huge plus.

FWD and 2.0 is gonna get good trip mileage.

I did not drive it. He remote started it. Started right up. No smoke or rattles. Ran super smooth.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190905/6180523cbfe53550272f39e74e9ee91e.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190905/cbfffdde3bde3b8534ec679ca61c3bc7.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190905/24d8f5d2e3aadcfba95703feb081840f.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190905/b1ab87dd98f035a29aa768712cf2b2f6.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190905/9cb229afe3d3420c7e21b855654d8a37.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190905/450fd3f21ed4247032714eabdfdf7c99.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190905/d5fd8c777dffb19395c851fdaad6f961.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190905/9fb7c482cbb3d6d477be9f950c2f7de7.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190905/97da49ce87fde9e1e74019011a1909d8.jpg)

Oh make sure you contact Eli Vittini. His name is on the business card on the first page of the report.

It's at Performance VOLVO. About a mile past Toyota on the left.

Just a tip after looking at the two car lots and seeing a few cars today since the wife was napping b4 work.

No way would I order a Used Car online and not seeing it in person. Pics do nothing but hide all the defects.

A friend ordered a 2017 Nissan Sentra Nismo 6 speed stick from Colorado sight unseen cept for pics. Clean Car report etc. When he got it. It was all scratched up. He had to pay to get some stuff taken out. It looks good now but he said never again.

Thank you very much!   I owe you a beer. They literally increased the price from $10,400 to $11,800 today. lol. That is a hard pass going in the wrong direction. It's insane for a Toyota dealer to do this on a weird Taurus they have had for 40 days. I would be in the 9000-9500 range but I won't bother going seeing as they raised the price $1,400 today.

Thank you very much.

LOL seriously? WOW

Its not worth $10k.

9k. Yeah solid sedan. Too many cosmetic deficiencies and unknown repairs that were not reported.

I am still showing $10,400

I emailed the GM and he told me that it was "market adjusted" to which I laugh in his face.  He said he would honor the $10,400, which I also will laugh at as it is not worth that.  I am going to keep watching this vehicle on the Cars.com app to see how long it takes it for it to shoot below what is market value just for fun.  I won't do business with these people so I won't buy it.

Wow. Yeah that's sad. The hood looks like some one used a snow scraper to clean it off. Pass air damn is cracked. 2 door dings pass side. Big scratch near the fuel fill. Both corners front bumper is scratched up. The clips are missing on that driver rear side bumper. Driver door is clearly not matching paint. You can see over spray in a few spots. Trunk has been adjusted. Basically the outside is banged up. Engine bay, trunk, underside, and interior are good.

I disnt even drive it so there is possibly even worse.

Not worth $10,400. Not even close.

Yeah, he had mentioned one in his town. I have one and have been in that community for a decade.
