I was installing my H&R springs this weekend and while doing an alignment I noticed something hanging down from my subframe.. It does not look like it belongs there, and I have no idea what it is or how it could have gotten in there. Its loose and I am sure is rattling around.. Anyone else have this?
Is that a rubber washer on there? It looks like a mount of some sort. Engine, trans, suspension?

I will have to cut it to remove it.
If it was beneath the bottom engine cover it is a sensor (simple switch) to monitor the cover being in place. The same thing is present near the front of the car on the left side where the hood closes to monitor that it is closed.
I added another picture close up. Its close to the passenger side wheel near the rear of the subframe.
Thanks for the close-up... No match on the other side? Looks like the anchor for an anti-sway bar or similar stressed or vibrated component... maybe left over from previous mods? This is a 2010 SHO, right?. I don't see anything like that on my '13... just looked.
Your guess is as good as mine haha. I'm the second owner of the car so I don't know the full history. And Yes its a 2010, and there is nothing to match on the other side. I also agree with some sort of anchoring point. I looked at an MKS and it did not have it. I originally thought maybe from an under panel, but doesn't look like they come with any.
I was also thinking it could be left over from manufacturing if they use these on a Jig during assembly of the car/frame. It has the same square hole in the subframe on the other side but no stud.
I have asked TaurusBuilder to look at it.
Nothing like that on my 2010.....
Anywhere.
Hmmm.... that's interesting.
No clue on wth that can be.

You should ask Waldo over at fordflex.net, he's pretty good at "explain the part I found".
Nothing I've seen before, definitely doesn't belong there. What is it attach to? Obliviously in hole in sub-frame but for what purpose?
Just an NSA tracking device. Nothing to see. Just move along.

Kinda hard to tell from the pic but is there a wire(s) attached to it? Looks lke a coolant temp/IAT sensor...
AHA QS! Could that be the temperature sensor for the outside temp display?
Rite
I still like the idea of it being the "flux capacitor".....

Not to get too far off topic, but since we are on the subject of flux capacitors; We are only 1 year away from the year they went into the future in Back to the Future 2 and I still don't have my hover board and Nike's with automatic laces.
And...the Cubs are still Completely Useless By September!

Ok, lets go about this in a logical way. Lets rule out things if we can
1) Could it be a flux capacitor?
Since theres no way hooking up a OBDII will be able to detect it. We have to do real life field testing.
On page 1398, section 3a of your owners manual it outlines what you have to do. But since Im such a nice guy Ill just tell you what is says.
"Find a 1/4 mile stretch of straight road in an urban setting. From a standing start, accelerate to 99 mph. If your car is equipped with the "Sync Flux Capacitor" option, you should see a bright flash and find yourself in another location.
If your car is NOT equipped with the Sync Flux Capacitor option, instead of seeing a bright flash, youll be seeing stars, but still find yourself in another location. It will have a big sign above it that reads: EMERGENCY ROOM".
2) NSA Tracking device:
Give em a call and ask them if its a tracking device. I understand they're open 24 hours a day ;-)
Since they are already monitoring, and have not answered, I do not think a phone call is needed.
Honestly, it looks almost like a sway bar end link mounting bushing.
What does it taste like?
It's not a sensor. I took it off. Problem solved.
