Title: Turbo noise and billet compressor wheels
Post by: Kingsped on January 04, 2018, 09:42:39 AM
Not sure if this is the place to ask but I'll give it a shot.

I also see other people asking about the CR PERFORMANCE CANADA COMPRESSOR WHEELS.
I have recently bought and installed a set including a full rebuild kit from CR PERFORMANCE.
I had them  balanced.
Now i have a noise from the turbos that is new.
I can hear them spoiling and it sound very cool but cool is not always right.

My concern is that i still may have other problems due to the sound.
It almost sounds like there is a boost leak and a slight metallic or pinging but only when im on the gas hard.
Its perfect sounding at idle and cruising speed.
My old turbos were totaly shot as you will see in my pics.

I do have a exaust leak just after the flex pipe (a broke bolt ) not fixed yet but very soon.
Could this cause the ping / metallic sound im hearing??
It does have a metal gasket THERE that migt be vibrating under a load Is this a possibility??

As far as CR performance Canada the guy is friggin awsom to deal with great service and parts look and feel very high quality.
My car is pulling way way way harder and its for sure the BILLET COMPRESSORs.

I have no oil burning that i can tell
So as i love the perfomance gains im still nervous that my turbos are going to eat up my new wheels.

Does anybody know where i can buy only a set of turbine shafts that will be a direct fit.
Will garret GT15 journal bearings fit the chra and shafts that are in it?
Can use any othe turbo in my 3.5l ecoboost turbochargers?
Im putting 2 kids through college and cant pay $2500 for new turbos and sur dont want to go back to stock or buy used .
I honestly would lime to lnow about purchasing the shafts.
Garret gt 15 parts are all over and fairly cheap.
Any help would be truly amazing.

Did you retune after installing ?

Yes.
But i was told it will take a few datalogs to fine tune .
I cant find any other person that has used these or at least someone that has them and is willing to talk about it.

Could the tune cause the noise im hearing.

Does anybody know if garret gt15 internals will fit?

Are you thinking tha shaft may be tweaked cause the noise during rotation?

Yep that what im thinking.
Id just prefer to locate some shafts for it
Anybody know if i can get shafts with different
Inducer and exducer that fit the stock housings will it work??
Almost every other turbo vehicle on the market has a option for turbine upgrades.
Even the eco F-150 has a option for them and some of them go in the stock TURBO  no problems.

Its a night and day difference in perfomance.

I still would love to see more options for people with our engine.
I would like the option to change or just simply replace the turbine shafts instead of BEING forced to buy new OE  or new aftermarket.
Every other car or truck on the road has a option for almost every part to be purchased individual but the transverse ecoboost.

I suppose this is a option
New message from: swedishdynamics-inc (624Purple Star)
Hello,

Thank you for your recent contact and inquiry!

We do stock the FORD Flex turbocharger CHRA which are a new GARRETT assembly and at $299.95.

These CHRA type would be different for both left and right FORD engine assemblies and a turbocharger part # would confirm your turbocharger type, if available.

We are also available at 203 791 8826 if there are additional questions and many customers opt to purchase any of our $299.95

Its a night and day difference in perfomance.

.
What exactly does that mean?

Are you running higher boost pressure with lower IAT2 temps?

Is it spooling faster?

Got any logs showing said gains?

No logs yet.
Still working figuring out what the noise is.
I only drove it for about 10 minutes then parked it in my garage.
I've already taken the turbos back off.

I can just tell.
I know my car very very well
And it most definitely is spollin faster and it's just flat out is performing better.
I wont even bother driving it Untill i get another rebuild kit and locate some new turbine shafts.
But the difference is night and day .

If anybody else has these things i can guarantee they will say thr same .
Im not saying it's the best or better than any other upgrades.

Sorry for all the typos my screen is cracked and i cant see some letters.  lol

May I suggest recording a sound clip of the noise for us?

Did you see any fins that are making contact when you pulled them off?

The new ones do,t look like they made any contact but i only ran it about 2 or 3 miles before i parked it and took em back off.
That was my thought .
I will wait until i buy the nrw shafts next week before i put em back on.
I found 2 used charger from a junk yard in detroit mi for $45.00 each so we will se if thoes are on better condition than mine we're.
Im still hoping that i can get some aftermarket turbine shafts though fords turbos suck

Have you called Turbo Direct for the shafts?
Title: Re: Turbo noise and billet compressor wheels
Post by: Kingsped on January 08, 2018, 09:01:37 AM
I've called everywhere and in every country and every website.
No one has em the same exact size ect.
I can find larger and smaller.
And less blades and more blades.
I guess i could have the housing machined for the larger size
Some are just .5mm smaller inducer and exducer but would fit the CHRA
And some are .5mm larger so it won't fit unless its machined.

I have no idea what a smaller one will do as far as boost.

I have a few shops looking into finding them

I am getting some used shafts for $75.00 for both so ill see how that works out.
I also found out that i can buy basicly the same size  turbine and compressor wheels as any after market upgrade.
Buy a gt15 rebuild kit and have the housing machined and all balanced for a fraction of the cost of other known upgrades.
Ive priced it a out very thoroughly.
Although some parts are made in china
And im sure there are some other things im missing that are important .
But in Theory it could be done cheaper than buying them upgraded especially if you have a hook up at a machine shop with the proper experience and equipment.
Ebay has lots of used ones for $175.00 each so i may just buy complete used ones while i atempt to build my own UPGRADE with the help of my local turbo shop and my cousin who claims he can machine out my old housings for free. ( i dont think he has ever done it)
Im thinking i have nothing to loose if i already have a working pair of stock turbos .
I May be way wrong because I am a noob.
Im sure it's my lack of turbo knowledge that may have caused my rebuild with the billet wheels to go south.
There was obvious damage on the turbine side where the piston rings go they were pretty much welded right down into the shafts and were almost impossible to get out .
