How the heck does one drive a SHO in stock Tune!
I just completed a weeklong vacation to Estes Park, Colorado in the family truckster on the stock tune, in order to save money on gas. Actually, it was the stock tune, with P0420 & P0430 disabled, because of my Livernois downpipes. Over 46 1/2 hours and 2433 miles of driving, I averaged 22.8 mpg.
Road Trip Notes:
1. 80 mph speed limits in South Dakota are pretty awesome.
2. Judging by the number of bikers we encountered, Sturgis is an even bigger deal than I thought, and I knew it was big.
3. Mistake one small calf for a goat, and you'll never hear the end of it. I swear it was a Black Angus goat.
4. Hadn't been to Mount Rushmore since I was a kid, and it's pretty darn impressive. It should be on everyone's bucket list.
5. How does "The Chain" not make it on Fleetwood Mac's Greatest Hits album? Also, my 6 year old son likes Fleetwood Mac. Good kid.
6. I saw a campaign sign in Wyoming for some guy running for coroner. Huh.
7. It's always cool to see animals that are not native to where you live. During the trip we saw buffalo, elk, pronghorn/antelope, burros and prairie dogs. I would have liked to see bighorn sheep and moose, but we did not.
8. The Rocky Mountains are really beautiful. I wish I had thought to bring a GoPro to record some of the mountain drives. Some of the drives are a little nerve-racking for a middle-aged guy with a heart condition, though.
9. Gas out West sucks. 85 octane, WTF?
10. Wyoming appear to be not much besides a bunch of cattle ranches and a few oil rigs.
11. Driving beats flying hands down.
