Title: Vent Tube.
Post by: 5ohSHO on June 16, 2018, 10:16:47 PM
Does the transmission in the SHO have a vent tube? From reading through some other threads it seems that the PTU does, but was curious about the transmission. Reason for the question is because I noticed a fluid leak at the track last night. You could see the fluid burnt onto the driver side down pipe and the undercarriage was also wet in that area. I also noticed that the transmission filler cap was wet all around and down the front of the tranny. Fluid level seemed way too high. Today in better light I found a vent hose in the back driver side of the engine bay that wasn't hooked up and it was wet all around it. Could the tranny have built up too much pressure from being over serviced and started coming out of the fill cap and caused the vent to pop off? Or did the dealer not put it back when they replaced the inner PTU seal? Anyone else ran into this problem?

I've been pretty intimate with the trans/ptu since I swapped out the PTU recently.
I've never noticed a trans vent.

Do you have an approximate location of the tube you found disconnected

Looking down towards the back of the engine through the bend at the back of the CAI.

I'm 100% positive that's the PTU updated vent

This is what the updated vent replaced. It was a mofo to disassemble but that rubber nipple is what vents out excess pressure.

This is not my pic but you can see the old style vent on top of the new ptu.

Sweet. Now I'll probably need to get the PTU serviced and I can only assume the tranny is over serviced also. Thanks for the help. Is that tube supposed to have any kind of clamp on it?

A clamp doesn't come with the kit but can't hurt.
You have to wonder why the hose is off though.
Have you located the other end of the hose where the vent is? It's usually by the master cylinder somewhere.
I would check to make sure the hose is not kinked or pinched.

I'm pretty sure it's off due to the dealer not re-installing it after replacing a couple of PTU seals recently. They gave my car back 1.5 gallons low on coolant so I wouldn't be surprised by this. The end of the hose is about a foot above where it connects to the PTU. It has a breather looking cap on it and there aren't any kinks in it. It looks easy enough to get to from under the car so I'll probably just put it back on and maybe add a small hose clamp or zip tie just for peace of mind I guess. Probably get the PTU serviced also since it has been about a month since the work was done and who knows what could've gotten in there.
