Title: review on Taurus vs Impala article

These two cars are close on size. I am suprised that chevy didn't offer a SS variant of this model. Not to say that they won't anytime soon, but the Taurus seems like it is packaged all the way around better than the Impala. Good job Ford.

Nice to see a 5 year old model hang in with a new one.

All MFT's (2013+) will alert 911 if you are in an accident?  What all does it relay?

They don't really need to offer an SS version of the Impala, it would be redundant because they already have the SS sedan.

It just places the call I believe, then 911 can get your position from your phone number I think.

the SS sedan isn't based on the Impala platform. It's more on the Malibu / holden size if anything. I would consider it a midsize car as where the impala is full sized.

5 year old cycle, and an even older platform. Yeah, pretty impressive. Or, I'm thinking pretty sad on GMs behalf.

There are lots of sad GMs when the SHOs are at the track. Made for interesting conversation on Friday. As my 12.7 flat bested a brand new ZL1s time of 12.80.

lol.  If Ford would have tuned the SHO from the beginning and produced high 12's off the showroom floor, it would have much more respect and sell better.  Oh well, I like the sleeper and exclusivity of it.

Great article, glad to see the Taurus holding its own! Anyone priced a used Taurus? They are still quiet costly with a 4 year old Limited selling for around $20k and a SHO going for around $25k (at least here in VA).

All 2010+ Ford Taurus with Ford Sync will alert 911 if any airbag deploys. All models have "SOS Post Crash Alert" which activates the horn and flashers, disables the fuel pump, after an impact involving an airbag deployment.

Upon the alert to 911, the phone coordinates are captured. The system then activates the speakers and microphone as it would during a normal call allowing you to communicate with the 911 operator. Of course, your phone has to be paired and it has to survive the crash. The phone also has be be close by, usually around 10-20 feet around the car. And lastly, your auto battery must have survived the impact so that the system can have power to work. Pretty cool technology, especially considering there is no additional fees or cost associated.

Mark

I pray for heavy aluminum use and close to 400 hp on the next model. Imagine a 3500 pound sho, yikes. And brakes please ford, thanks.  Then compare the two.

my 04 was referenced to the year 2004, as that year was the year i entered the military. Pretty significant change as far as life style so i keep '04' as a reminder from time to time.

US Marines. 2004-2010. Now I am a government contractor for the Navy in Norfolk VA. Not that bad down here except for the civilian population here... but hey, I am from Fayetteville, NC orginally so i can adjust. Always good to see fellow vets on the forum :thumb:
