Building a custom Exhaust

Hey guys. Been really happy with my new mods and tune from Torrie @ Unleashed.

I want to have a custom Exhaust made and I received a very reasonable quote for $2100 installed (Turbo Back) from the shop I've been working with for 10+ years.

I guess I'm just looking for a simple poll.

Taking it as a given that sound will be to your liking either way (Aka no rasp) Would you go HFC or no cat?

$2,100 is just way too much from where I stand. You can buy catless downpipes for $600 and I just had a custom 2.5" exhaust built for a grand total of $500. Throw in a couple of hours for install of the downpipes and the whole ball of wax should cost you around $1,250.

This is the way I'm going to do it, Turbo to tips from one guy- that I trust very much. Don't care that I could have it done cheaper-- what I do care is that I'm not spending 2400 shipped in parts from some website from people I don't know.

so back to the OP...

I guess if you have money to burn, go for it. But even a Corsa catback and PPE catted pipes are less money and are proven as far as sound and performance is concerned.

Yeah, go with a Corsa and PPE downpipes (cats or sans cats).  Can always just bolt it off and put back the factory stuff when you change cars.  Recoup some of your money.

Sounds like this shop knows you don't shop around for better prices...need to keep them honest.  What's an exhaust shop charge hourly? $80/hr?  $2100 is 20 hours, plus $500 in parts, if that.  Shouldn't take them 2.5 days to do that.

$2100 is a steep price for exhaust. Just have the shop put on PPE pipes and corsa cat back if you want to support his business.

The only thing that would concern me is if it winds up with a drone. That is one of the reasons I went with the Corsa. The cat back is crucial in what the car is going to sound like. $2100 with custom DPs isn't unreasonable. I just know in the past when doing custom exhausts on V6 cars I have owned it's hit and miss. The Ecoboost is no exception I have heard some that I couldn't stand to drive. I also think the Corsa is one of the beast sounding, I have had many complements on it. Just my 2 cents

I had a Corsa on my Magnum R/T and my buddy has a Corsa on his C6.  I wouldn't go anything less for the money. Don't risk with a custom exhaust.  I doubt the shop has put an exhaust on an XSport,  Drone sucks and it's well worth going with a proven CB that has no drone.  I had a Bassani exhaust on the Magnum prior to the Corsa and it was a waste of $700.  Couldn't stand the drone!

Was just quoted a price for dpipes, corsa cat back, and dyno tune(as suggested)...pretty pricey but think getting it on the dyno would be best to see how car is running with new setup... $2100 sounds cheap...

After doing so many custom exhaust cars so many years you kind of live and learn, many might disagree with me but many of these muffler shops charge as much as the dealer in labor for a cutom exhaust, then its time consuming to bend those pipes to stock specs and lots of welding involved, compared to a direct fit exhaust thats precisely made for your vehicle, example the Corsa made of stainless military steel direct bolt on took less than an hour to install with no drone and any kind if vibrations or rattling you might get in a custom exhaust setup, just my 2 cent.

Here is a suggestion for you moving forward. When you start a thread to poll other members for their opinion and they oblige, don't be rude when their response is not to your liking. Just do the custom exhaust/downpipes as that appears to be what you are going to do regardless of recommendations from others.
